    I had the dreaded clutch pedal stuck on the floor.
    At the same time I had massive brake fade.
    am I correct to assume that the only common link is heat?
    any advice on the best fluids on a car that’s just a track toy?

    Heat is not the only common link, they share the same reservoir. Fluid age could add to issue, 8yr old at most, normally 2yr change advised.

    On a side note, when changing brake fluid try out electronic abs flush with forscan (other systems available), couldn’t believe the debris difference / colour of fluid coming out (  cars had noormal manual flush 2yr ago )when flushing our other cars ( fiesta 2008 & 2014).

    Best brake fluid is one that suits your needs.

    Some 5.1 spec fluids used to have a lower boiling point than 4, butt generally have a higher boiling point.

    Downside of upgrading to higher spec, used to being more hygroscopic ( absorbs water ), this in turn requires more often fluid changes.

    If you boiling current fluid using brakes ( if this is the issue? ), changing fluid unless it’s way old is just one thing to consider, other changes could be change braking use / increase cooling / increase size, also if issue is heat -worth checking calipers seals for heat damage ( are dust seals brittle / heat damaged,  if they are – other more important seals could also be).

    I had a new clutch fitted 2 years ago and since done about 6000 miles.

    My clutch hit the floor couple of months ago. Turns out it was clutch pins. The pins are like 5 each but it’s the labour that costs you. Couldn’t tell you the figure as I got all brakes replaced and couple of other bits. Labour was like 600 for everything

    Thank you for all the advice!
    the fluid has not been changed for years, maybe 4, so I’m booked in a for a standard brake fluid service.
    it’s with a main dealer as I still have a warranty. I’m hoping for just a half hour labour charge at 134.85 plus vat per hour!

    My favourite Service Manager at

    my favourite Ford dealer

    recommended ATE racing fluid

    still DOT 4 but superior to OE.

    a complete flush (2litres and a spare 1litre can for me ) and labour and vat and warranty friendly

    £208.52

    I’m ok with that.

    Hi Tonys

    my pedals were ok once cooled. after about 20 mins.
    now that the weather has got colder, I can’t replicate the conditions that caused the overheating until next summer!
