I serviced my 1.5tdci yesterday and noticed oil traces in the turbo to air box pipe. Wasn’t drenched but enough to turn a white microfibre black. No oil in the airbox/filter and the turbo inlet/fins looked clean n shiney 🤷🏻‍♂️ .
is this normal for a diesel? Or major prob waiting to occur? Is this why catch tanks are fitted?

    Hi Wheely.

Yes this is normal. Both of my 1.6tdci did this. The valve cover also breathes in the inlet. Exactly why catch cans are fitted.

Fitting a catch can will be the least of your worries if the egr is not either blanked or mapped out.

    Thanks
