Held off tarting the engine bay up until now but managed to do a little RS “Del Boy buying and selling” and got it all sorted well under budget!  Just the airbox to do now which is glaringly obvious with all the other stuff hydrodipped and possibly nitrous decals to cover the silver Mountune writing on the crossover unless I get that hydrodipped too and possibly the Mountune secondary intake 😉

Nicely done Jon ! I’m leaving mine std as being an old fart I don’t like modern car engine bays, either in std form or blinged up as to me it should be about the engine and not a load of covers and trims hiding everything. I like old cars under the bonnet restored to original, for example…

    £100,000 worth of “1 of 2” only red RS1800s ever made !

    No nothing.

No Mods. No rockers. Just a chunky knob, thats now been replaced by an RS knob innit.

    No tackiness.

Std as Ford intended, but with a space saver wheel and jack and nuts and wheel brace. oh.. and flaps, a man has got to have flaps.

    Innit?

I think a good compromise is an old engine bay with a modern ish engine placed within it

    RS Edition.

Always surprised when looking under the bonnet of a pre 1990 car how small the wiring harness is compared to the elephants trunks we have now. Years ago when I was significantly thinner and more flexible I could stand inside the engine bay on some cars as there was so much air space (Morris Marinas were the easiest if I recall correctly)

Drop a screw or fixing now and it does not make it half way to the floor.

Enough nostalgia off for a blast now in the RS

have a good bank holiday if you are in the UK with a day off

May the Ford be with you

Last time I was at a major show was the Sheffield Festival Of Transport back in 2009 and there were some awesome examples of old school classics such as early Cortina’s, Escorts and a couple of Tickford Capri’s with engine bays just like the ones shown above – so clean you could eat your dinner off of them!  I love the classics when they are well looked after.. 🙂

rob, white-rs2 is not a fan of the Cosworth YB, hes had 2 or 3 blow up and according to him they are shite and dated engineering!  Better not tell my customer that at the moment as we are doing him a naturally aspirated one for his MK2 and have taken his Cosworth 2.9 24V V6 out to swap !! Heres a nice blinged up YB in a MK1 from a few years back..
