As GM says, pressing it out is easier – motorbike chain tool, or even a G clamp.

I’ve fitted 3 now, and the hammer method does work – get a decent lump of a hammer and it should only take 10 strikes if you’ve WD40’d it before hand.

I have also reset the neutral position as well. It’s on YouTube somewhere, but a 2 minute job.
