Greetings all, haven’t actually purchased yet but my itch just won’t go away and all being in uncertain times atm thought I’d wait a bit . Short history have always been total Ford nut in my youthful age,as a teen my dream was the mk2 rs200o (never got to own one ) had mk1 Mexico on to the cortina 1600e few more fords capri 3000s ect  then after owning the Xr3i finally got my beloved series 1 escort rs which with the help from Collins performance truly made it into one awesome car (from London used to love visiting family up north as much as possible gave me a chance to pop over to congleton with the rs for more work much to the misses annoyance lol)unfortunately my love affair with the RS came to a quick ending with some toerag stealing her !!! Best way forward purchased my next RS last of the rear wheel sapphire cosworths ,back again to lots trips to Collins hmmm mean family lol ,sadly had to sell her when my two children started to get older (double buggy suitcases in boot ) my beloved with full tank petrol used to start bottoming out and scraping exhaust on certain roads whilst travelling up north !!!

which brings me to now after a good few boring cars Quick question to all and your feelings ,I went and brought the AMG A45 couple years ago it was the pre-face lift and had the AMG performance suspension which was so harsh that in the end (plus needed to go back to sensible daily driver which could plod up,down motorway with 4 adults)I sold ,usually guys go from the RS to the AMG but has any of you gone from the AMG to the RS And what are all your feelings in comparison…

    cheers for reading

Welcome Keith. Well I enjoyed your story, not so dissimilar to mine except I never owned an AMG. I did own an RS2000 briefly which is where my 1st love of the Ford brand came from, well that and the XR4i.

I’ve driven the AMG and I can tell you the mk3 is no where near as fast, the old AMG is a ridiculous weapon but from a driving experience and ownership point of view, the Mk3 wins hands down. I’m not sure i can explain why so well but a year or a few on forums like this will draw you in I’m sure. There ain’t nothing as passionate as a Fast Ford owner, it’s more of a culture than a brand with the richest history of all.

Good evening riding in RS3 is a fabulous experience I drove lots of competitor but nothing gives as bananas as an RS, it is true that it is not perfect but I confirm I would not change my beautiful white for nothing else.
If an MK4 I have the right to dream.

TBH , it was a 3 horse race between the cozzie,A45 or the RS3 8p the merc won when a met grey came on the market without the aero kit mainly coz everyone was raving how good the A45 was ,as much as I loved it still wasn’t a RS lol hence the increased itch …..

    Welcome!

A45 is a great car…… but from what I know it gets boring.

The RS will give you smiles for miles (well in your case kilometers).

In regards of the itch, there might be an ointment for that (j/k!)

    Nicklulu,

We are still on Miles too. It’s just we drive on the right side of the road (the left). Just like this.<!–more–>

Welcome Keith. Unfortunately, I can’t answer your question and to be honest, you’ll probably always get a (slight) bias asking on a RS forum!

I’d say test drive one and see what you think. There are plenty of reviews out there too. Here one I just found…

    “Ford Focus RS Mountune vs Mercedes-AMG A 45 | Auto Express” https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/ford/focus/98861/ford-focus-rs-mountune-vs-mercedes-amg-a-45?amp

One thing I can say is that there is ‘something’ about owning an RS that you don’t get with other cars (as you probably already know). I don’t think I’ve heard of another AMG 45 driver waving or giving a nod to another (?). I think this factor is shown in depreciation figures too. Told you you’d get bias opinions!

I’ve had mine for 18+ months now and I still turn around after I park it.

Incidentally, your profile picture is brilliant. Quite possibly my favourite RS ever. Had one for literally 10mins until my insurance renaged on me as I was about to drive it off the forecourt. Had to give it back?

Thanks to ya warm welcoming guys, pity you can’t have a test drive for few weeks as I probably would of walked away from the A45 for being so harsh on our roads but that’s probably coz I had the AMG performance suspension .

Stu ya right about acknowledging each ,can’t say that ever happened unlike when I was into Bikes for few years and used to nod each other every time .deffo think when we’re near to getting back to normal will look for a test drive .

Hi Keith, welcome to the club.

I haven’t driven an AMG but beware, the RS is also pretty hard riding too. In race or track mode it’s off the scale……of course you wouldn’t be using that on public roads would you?

Book a test drive and enjoy, as others have said, it’s a totally engaging drive and lots of fun. It made my Audi S5 feel numb in comparison.

Hi Keith, the Focus RS is a truly great car and so enjoyable to own and drive. I have driven all series of Audi’s, Jaguars and Porsche’s  both on road and track and whilst most of those cars have more grunt, the Ford has a certain something about it that makes you feel good. That said I haven’t had much time in Merc’s so can’t compare to those.
