Rear Brake Pad Bracket

Went to fit new discs and pads on the rear and the new pads have a little bracket sticking out further than the OE pads so won’t fit. Looks to be riveted on and won’t move. Any ideas what it’s for the pads are just from the local motor factors and fit a load of different cars.

It’s just to let you know when pads are getting low,,in the past I’ve just snapped them off as I check my brakes ect regularly.
