Everyone forgets the Golf R before the price cut was considerably more than the RS and that extra new car price difference shows in the engines internals. It also helps that the same engine was used in so many platforms be it VW Audi Skoda Seat

They also depreciate like a stone in water. Early used ones are from £5.5k for a Golf R and S3.

But buying a used one is pretty good value for money, is it like £3k for around 500bhp

The fact it’s so cheap to get to 500 Bhp interests me , but the rs is so much better looking , bo one would.have a second look at a golf …….but 500 Bhp ?

The Golf R is as borring to look at, as the BMW 135/140.

The Golf R or the S3 for £5.5k you could buy and use as a dedicated track car and you wouldn’t be devastated, you might be a little upset if you put it into the Armco.

Strip it out, put a set of K-Sport 6pots caliper, disc & bells on, Bilstein Coilovers  and up the power to 400bhp. For  sub £10k you’d have a pretty capable track car.

Too be honest that was my plan for this year but the Mrs has put a stop on spending on car stuff this year, she found my stash of receipts for the Focus ???????

Looking forward to the Mk8 Golf R. Was told, before this virus thing, it may appear about September time. Who knows how things will be when we get back to some sort of normal. Did consider doing this to my previous one before I sold it on. Sometimes wish I’d kept it. (Big sigh!)

Now Mountune are specifying a clutch upgrade to go along with their M450 & M520 upgrades. This wasn’t offered originally to any of the first customers so why have they had a change of thought??

Whats a tad concerning their is no torque rating on the clutch which is pretty important more so than the bhp figure.

    clutch upgrade – rs

    £540.83 ex. vat | £649.00 inc vat

plus fitting, so about £1250 all in

the mountune clutch upgrade for the mk3 focus rs uses a unique hybrid combination of both paddle and organic friction plate and offers the ultimate road-going clutch solution.

this hybrid setup enables substantially increased torque outputs to be comfortably handled, whilst still driving like an oe clutch setup.

tested and recommended when upgrading to m450 or m520.

supplied as an uprated performance friction plate and cover.
