Yep still testing and changing and testing.

Having changed all the elements that let the car breath that being the following items –

Inlet Manifold
Inlet Spacer
Intercooler
Charge Pipe
Inlet 1st & 2nd
K&N
All Silicon Hoses
Exhaust (the sound in real life is absolutely awesome)

Air is free to flow in and out without any restrictions within that system.

The car is running the factory boost and “no” mapped power increase is planned until mid-2019.

But now the car is breathing; this has made the car more eager to go and feels faster, with a much quicker pick-up from the get go and feels free to rev and punch forward. The car just feels right on point now, running on standard mapping.

Yes both the Mountune inlet and spacer.

Yes a downpipe with a 100 cell cat (probably the same as yours) is on the next list of items, but that wont be until mid-2019 as once I’ve put a sports cat on I’ll have to have a remap and engine stuff won’t happhen until mid next year. Got to save up my spends ????

Been very busy in work today and will be again tomorrow so not been able to write up about the DSC controlled Tractive suspension but it will come because I have built it ?????

Cool mate!! Yeah Milltek 100 Cell Cat, I don’t know of anyone else who does one?! Not that it matters as the Milltek one is very nice indeed!! Definitely need a remap, and I doubt it’ll pass an MOT!! But I’m sure you can sort that. The smell from the Tailpipes when you start it up is AWESOME!! I didn’t want to get a straight through Downpipe in case it was shooting flames!! It certainly smells like it would be, lol!! I got mine direct from Litchfield. Just a quick word of advice – It came with Turbo to Cat Gasket but for easiness I’d advise you get 2 x studs and 2 x nuts for Turbo to Cat from Ford, when I changed mine the studs came out with the nuts and I had a HELL of a job separating them, you need the studs in the Turbo to hold the gasket in place!!

On another note, Have you changed the Turbo Recirc Valve?? If you haven’t I’d advise you do even without a remap, you’ve no idea how shit the OEM Recirc Valve is ‘til you take it out and see it!! The Mountune one is a different class!!

Look forward to your Suspension review!!

Cheers, Marc.

Good shout on the re-circ valve as this is often overlooked by the handset tuners. But job done Mountune one fitted ?.

In hindsight some of the eagerness to rev and go may also be a benefit of fitting the Mountune sump and balance shaft delete.

I was a little worried about the rumours of vibration after fitting the Mountune rear roll restrictor (in previous RS I felt nothing) and the balance shaft delete, no such problem incurred; feels very good and nothing of note worth mentioning.

When I picked up my Sport cat, HJS 200 cell I was told and they claim it’s TUV approved and meets regs and apparently doesn’t throw any warning lights without a remap. Okay they seem quite a bit more, perhaps for good reason. I got mine used from Chris Preston (our Ghost man) when he reverted to standard for sale, also his cooler. 🙂

DSC The Unfair Advantage.

Well its fitted. Which was simple enough, everything bolts up and plugs in, just as the OEM equipment unbolted and unplugged.

Being used to fitting traditional shocks and coil-over setups on all my previous cars, the first power up and set up left us all scratching our heads and a little annoyed (all for nothing I’ll explain soon). So many calls & emails to Steve (9Designs), to DSC, to Tractive all gave snippets of what to do and what to check. It got late in the day and very cold last Thursday so a bit pissed just pushed the car over into a corner and threw a cover over her. The (alleged) issue was each corner was rock hard solid no bounce what so ever; having fitted many traditional shock sets over 30+ years each bounce if you press a corner, NOT tractive

Right, now its Monday and new ideas and information from all involved more checking, then out for a road test; the shocks on checking in the garage are still rock hard, then boom everything kicks in all Four modes work and theirs a discernible difference to all the main 3 Normal Sport & Track (I didn’t try drift).

So after an hour or so ballooning about (sorry testing) I returned to the garage to be greeted with an email saying “dampers will remain solid until the DSC controller is to receive data input from one or all of the sensors”, which is exactly what happened. So on the original fitting day all was well, but unfortunately we were informed by DSC that the vehicle needed the ignition on only to activate the shocks this was later superseded by Tractive who said the vehicle needs to be driven to activate the suspension, which makes sense as no movement no data signal input.

But only being used to using and fitting, shall we say “normal dampers” having a rock solid shock when stationary gave us concern, which in this case of electronics was unfounded and mis-interpreted by ourselves as a fault.

So Yes, They are Just Bolt On and Plug & Play.

The rears I’ve set to the current maximum ride height reduction of 25mm from factory, the fronts are now at factory minus 30mm as I like the Ford Stance of arse up look, plus a free bonus of the lower front end over a level or high front end is a quicker 0-60 time.

So out on the road on the motorway in Normal mode felt smooth and comfortable a massive leap forward over factory suspension and factory equipped DSC cars. Not a limo’s ride but more like an executive saloon feel but without the wallow. Sport just firms the car up you go around corners flat, no body roll trying to pull you off the road the faster you go the more it grips and in comfort which is amazing, Choosing Track just jumps up 10 notches and gives you so much grip it madness but, if you get it wrong it’s going to be in a big way as the new speeds attainable on the twisty bits are ridiculous.

If performance / track days or weekend blasts with friends in similar cars is your thing, this is a worthwhile mod and a stunning bit of kit. The Focus RS wasn’t a shabby handling car before but it had a few negative traits………………… well it hasn’t anymore.

This Car is Now Certainly a Ford Focus RS gt.

To remove the original exhaust and put on the Ford Performance version took less than an one hour to do all and drive away. The sound is fantastic and the look is awesome. With a fit as good as, if not better than factory ?

How easy would it be to get to the CAT/Downpipe, thinking to do just that for now on the standard exhaust. Would be an axle stand job ?
