Now covered 506 miles of running in sooo tempted to flatten the throttle, it’s like Skywalker resisting the Darkside

Bloody hard especially when Golf R’s deliberately come up behind you drop back and come back up to your bumper regardless of which lane I was in x2 did this and Megane RS’s x1 also.

Morning mate!! Nice!! You’re showing great self control running in that Engine!! Especially when you have Golf R’s etc egging you on!! You’ll not need to worry about them after the 14th. ??.

    Cheers, Marc.

Had a hard drive back last night with a modded Honda S2000. Just plodding at 2500 – 2900 down the M6 pulled out to the middle lane at 75mph and the noise coming from the S2000 would make any exhaust on any of our Mk3’s seem well quiet very quiet ??, I could feel it’s pulse in my car.

Anyhow as I started to pass the S2000 it dropped back then pulled along side level then dropped slightly back then pulled level again ???????

I’m stuck at 3000rpm for another 200 miles so gutted would of been a good game.

And for you whiskey drinkers out the a reasonably price tipple for you ?

I wouldn’t be so worried about rigid rpm limits,  it’s using to much torque/low end load that does more harm.  I would rather keep it spinning light and free at 2.5 to 3.5K  and never keep at one rpm for long, brisk rising rpm and then lift and coast. There is no magic mileage when you stop,  it’s progressive think, keep rising the bar a little every few hundred miles.  I’d watch the boost gauge more than the rpm, keep it off or only low boost and let the engine spin up.  If you go too gentle you can glaze the bores and have oil control issues in the future.

totally 9, I’d have given that motor at least 5500 by now on half to three quarters throttle to get it bedded in, first bd i buit in 1983 I ran in so gently at max 3000 and it was crap rings did not seal at all. The initial start up 1/2 hour is the critical time and then the first 20 miles . At a hundred you are good to go building up to fullthrottle by 300 miles. You do need a bit of load on them.

I’ve generally always been a 500 mile job done on running in on ever motor in the past. But everyone stressed how important it was to do the 1000 on these MAHLE and Carrillo’s.

Maybe its an age thing and it’s planted doubt in my head as all previous engines I have had done on 500 miles. I’m suspecting it’s another Mountune scenario of being over cautious ………..

Ive done 816 miles of the most boring driving of my life…….. at least I got to actually enjoy the scenery on the left and right sides of the road lol.

No engine become run in at 501 or 1001 miles, it’s not a switch ?… hence the progress approach. Taught to me by my old man a Ford mechanic, concurred by my dealer who’s expert, and endorsement from BDA, heck what more do you need pussy !!! ????

heres Cosworths instructions and what we use as a guide  to break in..

the poundage on the left is how much load on the dyno. Once this is done, if the engine has been built properly they don’t smoke at all on idle, start-up or when flat out ! I’d def start stretching its legs now ( and see if it smokes when hot and when parked up idling hot) innit.

Torque and RPM test interesting reading, well I know what I’m doing for 2 hours on Saturday 🙂

I have varied the rpm mainly between 2k and 3k from 56mph to 80mph and normal town traffic driving 1k to 3k rpm.

I’ve never ran in this way before Mountune and advice ……………….go figure, they must require repeat business hahaha

I never went under 1.5K as a minimum, low rpm=higher torque and higher loads on the unbedded rings and pistons  as they try to slap against the bore.

Bring it over to me I’ll sort it for you 😉
