Message from fellow member Chris Ross:

I’ve changed my sump for the Mountune oil control system. I did this last week with no issues at all.

Today I’ve changed my mates sump for the same Mountune oil control system and was quite surprised by the difference between my standard sump and his standard sump.

Mine is a July 2016 built model and his is a September 2016 build but he has a 2017 replacement engine as his went pop at 10000 miles.

Below are pictures of both our standard sumps after removal.

Mine is the one with nothing in it and his is the one with slight baffling.

I honestly was not aware of any changes to the sump from any posts on any forums but ford have obviously done this for a reason on the 2017 engines.

Maybe they fitted the mustang sump to his new engine ?

Strange they didn’t include it to begin with but those added plates are to prevent oil from moving away from the oil pump pick up during extreme/prolonged cornering…..maybe there was a few spun rod bearings…..

Even the alloy casting looks different on the later sump, lots of small modifications made on that sump.

So early car go pop those motors ??

white-rs2 : Maybe I am blind but in my view there are no difference in the casting except some threads for the screws to mount the plates. but the shape and the form inside looks the same. also the small extensions looks the same but in old without threads inside.

    @ ipwnswiss

You’d be terrible at spot the difference 🙂

The ribbing has been extensively modified in height and additional metal added. With a total redesigned area top left. Also on the left the sump side is concaved outwards and is no longer flat.

Swiss is correct. The only differences are the addition of baffle plates. The castings are the same.

WhiteRS – the differences you have highlighted are due to the perspective of the photo, relative to each sump.

The sump on the right is further away so some parts appear different.
