Ok, my brother in law is 50 in a couple of weeks and has started getting into whiskey. I was thinking of getting him a good bottle for his bday. As most of you who read this thread like a tipple, I’m guessing you may have some good suggestions…???

@stu-c, that’s a very good question ha ha ha It is as you would guess a personal thing. But my choice would be for a fiftieth birthday Welsh Whiskey Madeira Wood. Available at most supermarkets.

Stu, do you have any idea if he likes fresh flavours or more smokey?

A good start for someone IMO is either a very smooth highland like a Dalwhinnie or a salty from the north like a Pulteney.

Both lovely, easy to find, very easy to drink and reasonably priced.

The Glenrothes is very nice Speyside. A little fruity number and it looks grand in its packaging. Nice gift.

This is going to sound weird but I had no sense of smell or taste for about 20 years,  I could get sweet and heat from chillies that was about it

about 9 months ago I had steroids injected in my shoulder, two days after got up in the morning and bingo! Back again, everything fucking stinks! Sense of taste and smell back big time!

got a bottle of baileys for Father’s Day on the go, baileys is weird it has to be said but It was free! Scotch just too much at the mo hopefully when shit calms down I can go for it!

Had a lovely bottle of Borolo last night for Fathers day with the Italian meal we had delivered which was stunning. Started with a red grappa and finished it off with a couple of Lemoncellos.

Perfect Italian session, Grappa, then Borolo then Lemoncello. Went to bed sloshed woke up bright and dandy.
