My D Reg Ford Escort 1.3L. First car I owned and every time it rained or I washed it the passenger floor became like a swimming pool. Garage never found the cause. I literally had to lay newspaper down under the mats to soak up the water. Ahh, great days. Not. ?

didn’t the battery tray rot through on the mk3 and let rainwater into the cabin on passenger side footwell?

    No nothing.

No Mods. No rockers. Just a chunky knob, thats now been replaced by an RS knob innit.

    No tackiness.

Std as Ford intended, but with a space saver wheel and jack and nuts and wheel brace. oh.. and flaps, a man has got to have flaps.

    Innit?

You know why the battery tray and everything below corroded. The water running off the windscreen ran onto the battery overfilling the cells and diluting the sulphuric acid which attacked all metal passengers side hence wet floor passengers side. Stupid thing was aftermarket plastic cover to stop this clipped over the battery cast 70p. It was common on the Mk3 Escort, and Orion they even made a repair panel for this problem.

I heard that was the issue years later. I obviously took it to a quality garage…… but at 17yrs old I was just happy to have a car ?

I’m waiting for the water leaks to appear in this rs, won’t be long and is a known fault, keep an eye on your boot filling with water, if you’re too late is goes right under all the carpet through the car, I’ve done two 13 plate focuses in the last month and took a wk to dry the carpet and foam underlay out, you have been warned

Crocket…..do you/they actually know where the water is getting in from, boot rubber, window seal, spoiler fixings? When lifting the boot and looking at drain holes mine has clear circular stickers over them.

NB 375, Goodrich hoses, RDU cooler (fitted for the hell of it), gas bonnet struts, Mountune RR, hard pipe kit, V1 cat-back….and RS seat covers!

It comes in through the cabin air vents behind the rear bumper, it fills a cavity each side of the vehicle in the rear corners then once full it poors in to the wheel well

My old Rover Tomcat back in the 90s had the very same boot water leak issue. I accepted sorting it with silicone back then but I’ll not do the same to the RS!

2017 Nitrous Blue RS with every option except shell seats – no blue bolsters for me though.

My FRS MK3 had a few weird faults. O2 sensor replaced 3 times. Outside air temp displaying minus18 (which meant no cold air from the air con WTAF?). ABS fault, interior lights stuck on, ambient lights not on, multiple audio fault counts…

The weirdest and worst fault was having “the wrong head gasket”.
