Whilst it very cold in the northern hemisphere there is not that much heavy snow falls.

Snowfall totals have been in the 20-50cm (8-20″) bracket over the last seven days and there’s been snowfall over a wide geographical area including the continent’s most westerly slopes in Portugal, southerly in Spain and across Eastern and Northern Europe as well. Along with dozens more areas opening in the Alps and Scandinavia the first resort has also opened in the Pyrenees for 22-23.
AUSTRIA FORECAST Temperatures are looking good for the coming week in Austria, staying below freezing day and night with plenty of cloud cover so good for more snowmaking. There’s not much natural snowfall forecast, however.
SWITZERLAND FORECAST It’s currently looking increasingly dry for the week ahead with sunnier weather expected by the weekend. Temperatures should stay well below freezing at altitude but get to high single figures in valleys in the afternoons.
FRANCE FORECAST Temperatures should stay low in the French mountains, well-below freezing, in fact, allowing snowmaking systems to work, although there’s not much snowfall in the forecast at present other than a few days later this week when light accumulations are expected.

ITALY FORECAST The weather will continue to be overcast but not especially snowy in the coming week with the freezing point around 1500 metres in the daytime. Mostly sub-zero day and night above that but getting up to double-digits above freezing in valleys in the afternoons.

GERMANY FORECAST Dry weather and temperatures close to freezing (varying from a few degrees below freezing to a few degrees above) over the next seven days. Sunnier spells towards the end of the week and at the weekend.
SCANDINAVIA FORECAST A cold week ahead with temperatures typically between freezing and -15C, snow forecast for Norway and the west, and drier in Sweden and the far north.

SPAIN / ANDORRA FORECAST A fairly promising forecast with temperatures set to be fairly low (_5 daytime highs to -10C overnight lows at altitude. Increasing snowfalls later this week, the heaviest on the French side of the mountains.

BULGARIA / ROMANIA FORECAST Mostly cloudy skies with temperatures in the range of -7 to +7C. There’s precipitation forecast in the latter half of the week that should bring 10-20cm of snowfall to higher slopes.
ROCKIES FORECAST Most areas will see sunny conditions for the next few days with temperatures staying well below freezing. More light to moderate snowfall is expected for the last few days of the week and into the weekend.
USA EAST FORECAST A mixed bag of weather for the week ahead too, with plenty of precipitation forecast – but it looks like that will be rain at some centres/elevations and snow higher up as temperatures fluctuate around 10 degrees either side of freezing, getting quite warm at low elevations but staying close-to or below freezing on higher peaks.

    Will update soon

A strongest cold wave since the start of winter has hit many parts of China, affecting more than 20 provinces. The cold wave has led to strong winds and sharp temperature drops across a wide area in China, with some parts of the country experiencing temperatures tumbling 12 to 20 degrees and even causing casualties due to extreme weather. Freezing weather killed seven workers at a construction site in Altay Prefecture, Northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, local authorities said in a statement late Monday night. Altay has been hit by the strongest cold snap in nearly a decade, with extreme weather including strong winds, heavy snow and frigid temperatures, local officials said, adding that a total of eight workers went missing on a road construction site due to the extreme weather were eventually rescued, with seven dying in the disaster. Moreover, the extreme weather in Altay’s winter pastures led to impassable roads, frostbite of livestock, and people being trapped, as the temperatures plummeted to more than minus 48.6 C. Xinjiang Meteorological Observatory issued a cold wave warning for three days in a row starting from November 25, and even issued a red alert on November 26 for the first time since 2008. Besides, the National Meteorological Center has issued orange alerts, the highest level, for two consecutive days in a row starting November 27. From November 28 to 30, the central and eastern parts of the country will witness severe temperature drops, strong winds, dust and widespread rain and snow, with some areas experiencing a temperature drop of more than 18 degrees, according to the latest weather alert. With cold weather covering large swathes of the country, it has reset minimum temperatures in most parts of the country’s northern region. The lowest temperatures in Changchun, Northeast China’s Jilin Province, Shenyang in Northeast China’s Liaoning Province, and Hohhot in North China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region fell below minus 10 C, and the lowest temperatures in Beijing and Taiyuan in North China’s Shanxi Province was only minus 5 C and minus 8 C.

Alaska today , More than a foot of snow reported in parts of Anchorage, with more to come

After a heavy overnight snowfall, Maryjane Summerville, left, and Victoria Manzer walk at 7 a.m. on Waldron Drive on Dec. 7, 2022, in Anchorage. For years, the two have walked together three mornings a week no matter the weather, they said.

Eleven to 15 inches of snow fell throughout Anchorage by Wednesday morning, with more expected before the storm tapers off in the afternoon, a National Weather Service meteorologist said.

The weather service issued winter weather advisories extending into Wednesday for Anchorage, the Kenai Peninsulamainly east of Sterling, and the Matanuska Valley.

Schools in Anchorage and the Matanuska-Susitna Borough were closed on Wednesday due to the heavy snowfall and poor road conditions. All after-school activities planned for Wednesday were also canceled. Driving conditions on much of the Seward, Glenn and Parks highways were described as difficult Wednesday morning by the Alaska Department of Transportation. Side roads in Anchorage were also challenging. From Tuesday to Wednesday, there were 25 vehicle crashes in Anchorage, including six with injuries, according to a police spokeswoman. Officers also responded to 143 vehicles in distress.
