BMAC, that’s a great list. The Subaru’s were really were the way to go back then for reliable/cost effective fun. I have not heard of MK2 Focus RS reliability issues, was it a Friday afternoon car?

    3rd car – newer Citroen c1

part of me still wishes I had kept the little Peugeot. Would have saved me putting so many miles on the RS

Here’s my somewhat random selection of motors… Despite having lusted after a Sapphire Cossie most of my life, I never ever owned a Ford until 2015. Have a chuckle at the rest of this nonsense…

    – Vauxhall Astra GL. Think it was something like an old suffix Y-plate, bought it off a mate and sold it back to him a few weeks later, for 50 quid.
    – Rover Meastro HLE. Dodgy auto-choke conversion, ran like a bag of spanners and it got left on the corner of my road… for a long while.
    – Citroen ZX Avantage. J plate. Got written off at a junction in Walthamstow. Had a bootful of MTX subwoofers.
    – Citroen ZX Dimension. M plate. Replaced the written-off one above. I liked these cars despite them being a bit fuddy-duddy.
    – Vauxhall Astra SRi. Y plate. First car I financed, modified it a lot, then put back to standard and gave back to the finance company.
    – Peugeot 205 GTI 1.6. G plate.
    – Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9. D plate. Had both at the same time… 1.6 was never but in worse condition, 1.9 was solid and I sold it for about 900 quid. How I wish I’d kept that.
    – VW Golf mk2 GTI 16v, D plate. This car rarely left the garage and was in bits mostly. Broke it for spares in the end.
    – Vauxhall Corsa TD, L plate, maybe, no idea. What a horrible car but got from A to B OK. Went on a bit of a spending cut here (you probably can’t tell).
    – VW Bora SE TDI, V plate. Great mile muncher for the travelling I was doing at the time. Until it spat the head gasket out.
    – Peugeot 306 GTI, R plate. What a fantastic car. Lost it as part of a relationship break-up, after which it nearly caught fire in disgust.
    – VW Golf V6 4Motion, Y plate. Another great car, with a serious drink problem. Regret selling this one though, was mint.
    – Citroen ZX 16V, L plate. Trying to re-live my youth but with the car I wanted at the time… instead of a 1.4; same engine as the 306 GTI. Didn’t drive like it though.
    – Vauxhall Astra Turbo Convertible, 2002. Have never owned another car longer than this one, wish I still had it really.
    – Vauxhall Astra Turbo Convertible, 2004. Bought this from a place in Cheshire everyone probably has heard of – low miles, mint, every option, lightly modified. Sold it a few weeks later, was just too nice.
    – Mercedes CLK 430, V plate. What a shed. Gearbox nearly financially ruined me. Quick in a straight line, death trap if it wasn’t dry on the road.
    – VW Golf PD130, 2003. Another mile muncher, all fine until a lorry tin-opened it outside the house… Write off.
And then I get a Ford!
    – Ford Fiesta ST-3, 2015. The first brand new car I owned, Mountune’d from the dealer. Easily the most fun car I ever had to that point… It just felt so quick.
    – Vauxhall Omega Elite, 2001. 3.2 litres of take me to the filling station. I loved this car, but it drank so much petrol it wasn’t funny.
    – Ford Focus ST-3, 2017. Traded the Fiesta for this, never really totally fell in love with it though. Just didn’t feel as quick or as nimble as the Fiesta did. Probably drove more miles in Europe than I did at home in this car.
    – VW Bora 1.8T, 2002. I’ve still got this, gets me to and from work, has the 180hp anniversary lump and has 120,000 miles on.
    – Ford Fiesta ST-2, 2019. Traded the Focus for this. Mountune’d it. Loved it. Quick quick car in all situations. Can’t fault it… just the chance came up to replace it.
    – Ford Focus RS, 2017… and here we are..!

I’ll throw my hat in the ring, just remember I worked for Vauxhall for 12 years ?

    • 1984 Fiesta 1.1 Popular Plus (Sold a guitar and amp to buy for £500)
    • 1989 Fiesta XR2 (What a car, wish I still had it)
    • 1998 Mk4 Astra 1.8 Sport (First  brand new car, a treat to celebrate completing my apprenticeship. Shite car, bought 3 months after launch, should’ve waited!)
    • 2005 Mk2 Focus Zetec Climate (Heated screen, enough said!)
    • 2006 Mk5 Astra 1.9 CDTi SRi 150 (Practical and not bad, 70 miles a day commute led to the devil’s fuel. Stoved the rear quarter in by crashing it into my own wall the first time I drove it off my drive after having my plaster taken off my broken leg though, twat!)
    • 2013 Mk7.5 Fiesta Zetec S 1.6 TDCi (Brand new, a bit more reliable for the commute)
    • 2015 Mk3.5 Focus ST3 TDCi (Tangerine Scream, love that colour. Mapped it to 220bhp, when I started my mid life crisis, according to the wife)
    • 2013 Audi S3 8V Black edition S-tronic (10 mile a day commute, so back to real fuel. Went to Revo stage 2, 390 ish bhp, fast as, but boring as hell. Haldex started not working, so got shot.
    • Hyundai Veloster 1.6 Turbo (Wanted something unusual and liked the matte grey paint. 182 bhp didn’t cut the mustard though, lasted six months)
    • 2017 Mk3 Focus 2.3 RS (Wanted an RS forever, so thought sod it, even if I can’t afford it, need to have owned one. Love it, nuff said!)

Sync 3, Lux pack, forged alloys, door protectors, winter pack, MSD420, DSC controller, Mountune; intake, short shift, roll restrictor and springs, Mishimoto intercooler and hoses, Pumaspeed 12mm black wheel spacers and nuts, H&R anti-roll bars, Scorpion valved cat-back with black ceramic tips, J9 Performance exhaust valve controller, EBC grooved/dimpled discs and yellowstuff pads, Goodridge carbon effect brake lines, carbon mirror caps and gear knob, smoked led sequential wing mirror repeaters, bonnet lifters, RS puddle lamps, Rally Armor flaps, Ghost and tracker
