    Hi Guys,

     

    Yesterday got CheckEngineLight and car had a slight rough idle. Checked the spark plugs the one that had a broken electrode look really odd, see picture.

     

    Replaced the plugs with OEM and car is pulling strong again, should I be concerned about the piece that broke off? Im hoping that it just went out the exhaust valve and is sitting in the cat.

     

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

    I would had a borescope and checked the cylinder before replacing the spark plug.

    are you running a tune ??



    No nothing.

    No Mods. No rockers. Just a chunky knob, thats now been replaced by an RS knob innit.

    No tackiness.

    Std as Ford intended, but with a space saver wheel and jack and nuts and wheel brace. oh.. and flaps, a man has got to have flaps.

    Innit?

    are you running low octane fuel?? If the other 3 plugs were showing signs of overheating/melting etc I’d be worried that you are on the cusp of LSPI !! but as the other plug appears to be ok, its possibly just a faulty spark plug , are you running std heat range plugs? maybe one stage colder might suit?

    Just to add, its a 2016 plate with only 43000 kms (27 000 miles) on the clock.  Plugs have never been changed

    Just using normal shitty South African pump fuel (E95 unleaded). Im no expert in reading these plugs, but the centre electrode of the faulty is clearly larger than the one next to it (I wonder why)

    Are they the same part number on the plugs?

    Have you checked cylinder where the faulty plug was from?

    Same part number yes. Didn’t have the tools at the time to check to check the cylinder. Figured that its a really small piece so I took my chances. The car is running extremely smoothly at the moment

    I think you may find that the porcelain insulator has ‘slipped’ down? have you tried tapping/pushing it back up into the metal body?

    Don’t worry that is fine you have been very lucky

     

    and he electrode will just fizzle up in the combustion process

    if the ceramic had dropped down Ito the engine is hen that’s a different story as that doesn’t burn and it just gets smashed up inside

     

    change your plugs to one step folder gap them correctly and carry one enjoying it

    Their was an issue with the Denso ITV plugs with the ceramic dropping down and covering the electrode.
    Your picture shows the ceramic much lower or higher on the left plug covering the electrode.

    Yes none of that matters really as the ceramic hasn’t dropped into the cylinder as stated very lucky

     

    mine dropped into the cylinder with an NGK plug as they are what’s supplied as stock
