    Hi,

Got an issue with my wipers.

I’ve had to remove them a couple of times recently due to working on the car. They were working fine prior to this.

However now. The first time i turn them on , they clash in the middle of the screen. Its like the drivers side motor actuates maybe 2 seconds after the passenger and they meet int he middle of the screen, stop for a second, the passenger arm pushes past the drivers one to continue up. Then the drivers side.  Then, once that happens, the drivers wiper returns, stopping a few inches from the bottom of the screen and passenger wiper goes back to its normal position at the edge of the bottom (maybe a mm or two beyond). But after that initial hit, they then work “normally”.

I haven’t done anything but remove the arms and refit them.

Do i need to do some sort of calibration? Or does it sound like a new motor job?

You get one thing fixed on these things and then another thing goes wrong LOL Just in time to sell it as well!

you have got them set correctly in the park position? so the drivers one is above the passenger one when parked?

    No nothing.

No Mods. No rockers. Just a chunky knob, thats now been replaced by an RS knob innit.

    No tackiness.

Std as Ford intended, but with a space saver wheel and jack and nuts and wheel brace. oh.. and flaps, a man has got to have flaps.

    Innit?

I make use of the fact that the wipers are free to move.
I use them or misuse them to hold stuff onto the screen, like a sun shield.
I always put them back carefully when I’m finished.
yet often they have a little fight when I start the car.
at first I thought I’d buggered them up but they always settle down and seem indestructible!
I expect they have some sensor system that resets?

I had problems with mine after FMC changed the front screen. The technician told me each wiper has it’s own separate motor and there is a setup procedure. It took him two attempts to get mine right so I don’t think it’s that easy.

My wipers automatically readjust themselves if they are incorrectly repositioned in their parked position.🤔

Thats right Tony… but if hes ‘had them off’ and bolted the arms down wrong, they will be forever fighting amongst themselves ! I would remove both arms and then operate the wipers, let it self park and then bolt the wipers down in their proper positions at bottom of screen and see if that fixes it. Innit

I’ve had them on and off several times, making sure each time that the drivers was positioned correctly.

I’ll give it another go tomorrow but I’ll let the motor reset as suggested first and then refit the arms. See if it works.

    Cheers

Spent all morning resetting, refitting, resetting etc. etc. Still consistently the same issue. Without the arms in place the motors appear to work fine. When attached they fight and bang/hit each other first use and then get progressively out of sync the faster the setting. It looks still like the drivers side is the one causing the issue with a delayed start up and it appears to slow down – so think its a motor issue and Ford agree.

As such, they’ve suggested i swap out the motors for both – £380 each side + fitting. Plus they will do a “calibration” on Forscan for £50, plus labour to fit. So looking at about £900 with one hours labour to fit.

I’ve decided to just buy 2nd hand motors and fit those – see if it works. Else its a problem with wiring or an issue in the body control module – which can’t believe i’d have upset just be removing the wiper arms and putting them back a few times.

Will have to wait and see when the 2nd hand comes, but for £20 off ebay. Can’t really hurt trying. Even if i have to do both.

Oh and noticed that somehow its cracked the screen, by fighting and bouncing on the glass as it has – tiny cracks in passenger corner. So got to get that done as well.

Not having much luck with this car! lmao.

My mother had a B-Max that done that, but only on first swipe.  Once the wipers were running it was fine.  On intermittent settings it was touch and go.  She has changed the car since so don’t know what the answer is.

are you setting them up on a wet lubricated screen? they are susceptible to dragging/sticking blades on the screen which can put things out of sync, put a soapy mix of car wash on the screen if you’re playing about, dont go in dry !

All set up with new motor and still they are out of sync.

I’ve tried wet, dry, reset and repeat multiple ways and times. Nothing.

I’ll have to book it into ford but I see a big bill in my future. Annoying for something that was working only a couple of weeks ago and all I did was take the arms off.
