After installing a new “daily driver” wheel/tire package with 265/35ZR18 Super Sports, I decided the car needed a wider splash guard. Originally I had ZL1_addon guards primarily because of their compactness. So I used the ZL1_addon guards as a template to fabricate custom guards, about 5/8″ wider and taller than the original guards. Material was 1/8″ ABS (Plexiglass) sheet from a local supplier. In the pattern photo, the outline of the original guard can be seen on the pattern cardboard. The position of the holes from the original guard was retained, relative to the inner edge of the guard. The pattern was transferred onto blue masking tape on the sheet plastic. Much easier to see and it helps to prevent chipping of the plastic. Cutting was done with an old Black & Decker jigsaw with laminate style blade, with the saw mounted upside down on a small jigsaw table. Hardware from the original ZL1_addon guards was later reused.
If someone else wants custom guards for wider tires, my suggestion is to purchase and install the ZL1_addon guards. Then remove the guards and use them as a template. Fabricate the new guards and install them with the same hardware.
