    Hi all.

Picked up the new RS a couple of weeks ago and due to work commitments have still only got a couple of hundred miles on the clock.

I realise this question has probably been asked and answered so apologies if I’m covering old ground.

Has anyone heard if Ford have an official run in period for this engine ? Or is it just a matter of common dog ! It’s obvious that no new engine is going to appreciate undue load or being worked hard with low oil temperature.

    Thoughts please

    thanks.

@ SKINT Ford suggest 1000 miles as a running in period, ideally not labouring the engine constant set speed, hard acceleration etc

I run mine in as have lots of other members, treat it like an elastic band stretch it slowly, extend the revs as the mileage goes up rather than flat out from day one

There are those that would disagree I am sure but ultimately it’s your car buddy so down to you at the end of the day

I’ve had mine just over 2 months now and only just broken 600 miles.  Taking it easy until the 1000 miles tick over.  Don’t think it will hurt in the long run.  Even though it is very tempting to floor it every time I drive it ha ha

Just done a 1000 in mine, took my time in it up to around 500 miles don’t think I went over 3k and kept it in normal mode.

At 500ish I used sport mode and done varied speeds, motorway and B roads. My commute  is 15 mile each way. The run is about

50/50 B roads and motorway.I have gave it a few burst of late, had it up to 5K a couple of times.I am going to carry doing the same until

1500 miles, then get the oil and oil filter changed. It should be good to go then.

Thanks everyone. It’s tempting to dive right in from the off but I’m going to be patient and give it a fighting chance. Bought this as a keeper, so a bit of mechanical sympathy now will hopefully reap rewards down the line.

Funny though !  Some of the best and quickest engines I’ve ever built in the past were thrashed from day one. (Pure luck most likely). ?
