Mountune 380 compatibility with turbosmart issue

I have mountune 380 installed with the turbosmart actuator.  However, the engine service warning light if I continue to push the car above 150km for about 5 seconds and the car seems lost power. Everything returned to normal again after I restarted the engine again. I check the mountune diagnostic program but no code has been found.  After I took the actuator away now, no more warning lights

At a guess I would think as the car goes into Eco boost the actuator is allowing too much boost to generate and the safety parameters within the ecu are kicking in to safe guard your engine. Wise move removing it until it can be set up properly on a rolling road.

 

I’m not an expert by any means but an educated guess 😉

That’s my guess too.  My Machanic, who is also mountune specialist, already mentioned the 12 PSI boost by the actuator seems too high before installation. However, I believe such a reputable  manufacturer should do their own compatibility test before launching this product, especially with such basic mountune stage one upgrade.  I wish some expert here could give advice on solving the issue as there is as significant performance improvement with the actuator and I don’t want to waste this useful upgrade

Looking into this a bit further I don’t think that the Mountune map is suitable with this Actuator.

seems the guy on the video needs a flashing on mountune but seems my MT380 don’t have this option

I know 2 totally different cars but the turbosmart wasn’t compatible with the mountune mp215 on my Fiesta ST. it worked for about 3 months and then would throw a CEL if I even gave it 1/2 throttle or more and subsequently had to remove actuator.

Seems turbosmart is not able to be a drop in installation for mountune mapping.  I have reported this issue to turbosmart for technical support n their reply only emphasizes it needs correct air/fuel mix as mentioned in the manual which doesn’t help at all.  Also, mountune mapping also very rigid and have little rooms for customization.  Suggest not to install this two parts together unless you are a professional. For me,  I decided to take away the actuator!

Danny I take it your problem has gone away since removing the Turbosmart actuator?

Yes, no further problem after taken away the actuator, now only the M380 kit and the mountune brake hose and they works perfectly fine.

For non pros like me n needs a garage to install, I recommend not to install the turbosmart actuator with mountune because the labor cost for putting in and taking out will be high.

But I really want if somebody in this forum can share their experience on a successful case on an upgraded actuator and what kind of tweaks does it make.

Once again (I know its 2 different cars) I had it on my Fiesta before I put the mountune on for about 8 months and It worked great. I felt it changed the character of the turbo in a sense of the boost curve. Where before the Actuator was installed my boost would die off pretty quickly after 5500rpm but once installed it seemed to carry right through and just more stronger to red line and was a noticeable gain once installed.

I hear you about the install cost and removal of it ,it cost an arm and a leg! …the mechanic charged 300 AUD = 1785 HKD each time..  Just curious what did a mechanic in HK charge for install?

Unlike fiesta, focus Rs actuator is located in the back of the engine unit and it needs to remove the intake and the heat shield.  It takes almost an hour to put on and removal.

It works quite good from 0-160km but service light will easily turn on after that and car will completely lost turbo boost until restarting the engine
