you do understand what cams do right?
IF I had the head off and was in search of more power I would def put a pair of cams in and clean the porting up some too. A bit more lift and a few more degrees of duration would do nicely.
No nothing.
No Mods. No rockers. Just a chunky knob, thats now been replaced by an RS knob innit.
No tackiness.
Std as Ford intended, but with a space saver wheel and jack and nuts and wheel brace. oh.. and flaps, a man has got to have flaps.
Innit?
I’m a been a big fan of the Piper BP285 cam in fast road car. Ever since the days of the Crossflow to much more modern stuff. They work really well in conjunction with a ported head and work even better if you add in bigger valves too.

In my experience reprofiled cams have a detrimental impact on the lower end performance. But that was when I was rebuilding Pinto engines in the eighties!
yes, true rs77, but I always ask folk when they want a rebuild/tune, ” how often are you driving between a 1000 and 2500 revs?” ( most ‘old’ cars with smallish engines are always buzzing along with 2500-4000 revs when driving normally unlike todays turbos and diesels and tall gearing for economy!) A lot of the time folk do choose/fit a too wild a cam with maybe a power band 4000-8000 and yes with big carbs and big chokes in the carbs, they will be snatchy at low revs. A mild cam like maybe the 270 piper would be fine for road use and no loss of flexibility at low revs, the 285 may just upset those drivers who like punching the throttle wide open at like 1800 revs in 2nd or 3rd gear and expect seemless smooth power, but it would come on strong from 3000 upwards, and give a lot more where the std cams stop working at just over 6000 ish !! I do not like the power band at all on the RS ! Its like the opposite of a proper race engine, the more you rev it, the less kick in the back it gives you, I want more action the higher the revs go ! It almost feels like a faster car if you sort of ‘short shift’ and drive it on the boost/torque curve. if you get me!

Remap will give you that feeling. I feel I need more top end on mine middle is perfect
I’ve used BP285 & BP285T’s in daily drivers and all have been fine expect around 20bhp from the 270 and 30bhp from the 285 cam on a turbo 2+ litre engine.
If you buy a set of cams either the BP270 or BP285 make sure the last letter on the code is a “T” eg COSBP285HT. As this denote a Turbo application.
