Thinking of selling my car. 68 plate Red Edition, standard apart from DSC. Has a sunroof, 5 year warranty too and currently under 1300 miles. I have had an offer from a dealer but just curious as to its value as a private sale. Dealer is safer in my eyes private can be a can of worms so just testing the water ???

    Cheers

    Dealer offer about £32k ?

    No nothing.

No Mods. No rockers. Just a chunky knob, thats now been replaced by an RS knob innit.

    No tackiness.

Std as Ford intended, but with a space saver wheel and jack and nuts and wheel brace. oh.. and flaps, a man has got to have flaps.

    Innit?

Reason for sale and reason I bought it is…

Part one is I’ve just become a bit tired of trying to keep it in good nick due to the general public and the lack of repairs to our roads. I love the car but I just don’t have the time or patience to waste keeping it in best shape nor do I have the excess cash to get someone else to do it for me.

Why I bought it is irrelevant to be fair but I will answer. I’ve had countess performance cars over the years because I liked or wanted them that is it. In current times the roads are clogged with people who don’t give a shit and I’m tired of fighting them all. I’d rather drive my £500 14 year old fiesta and let them destroy that ???

Sorry, I don’t get it at all. Why buy a 37k car if you feel like that? And then why come on here and expose your confused thinking and logic?

Just take time to really think about it was will be hard to get another.

I see what you are saying about the roads etc but just have to pick your time and road then the car makes sense and you realise again why you bought it.

You’re selling your car because it’s going to get dirty and damaged. Maybe you should buy one of these, dirt isn’t a problem and the residuals are bulletproof.

Yep that would be like for like and fix all of course ??

As I said in the beginning I like the car and it’s really just something going round my head more from the point of view I don’t use it a lot because I rary trust parking it anywhere now. Unless there happens to be a large half empty car park. The cleaning isn’t really an issue but I get no enjoyment out of it like some do

Smooth I get it totally, living inside the M25 I never seem to be able to go anywhere without sitting in traffic, tailbacks, roadworks etc etc. And if i do get a bit of open road, what can I do? 60 or 70mph as there are average speed cameras everywhere, police camera vans parked up in laybys and atop of bridges, static speed cameras, it really has taken the enjoyment out of driving for me. I used to be able to go on a few stretches of road near me that yes may be 40mph limit, but are dual carriageways and more or less straight , have no pedestrians or crossings or roads adjoining so for last 30 years or so its been like a race track and NO serious crashes or accidents, I could happily take my Escort out for a blast and have no issues, have the odd drag race and then put it away. I don’t use the Focus for commuting or daily so its just a fun unnecesary car really, and I cannot get to use much of its potential unless I drive a long way and then have no idea about the local cameras etc so would probably get a ticket anyway!! I cannot leave/park the car anywhere because it just seems to attract all manner of stuff. I parked it outside my house and went inside and looked out the window for a while, i had a cyclist stop and rest his hand on the roof while he took a phone call, then a few mins later a massive removals lorry squeezes through as a bloke had parked opposite mine fully on the road instead of wheels on kerb ( as is allowed). I see a mum walking down the road with two kids, one on a scooter and the other wobbling all over on a bike and I’m thinking ‘here comes a scrape down the side’ so I went out and put it away, that 30 mins was enough to put my B.P up !  When I look back at older bangers I had that were fun to drive AND use as dailys without a care in the world I think ‘is it really worth having another RS in the garage as well as the BDA? I really get more fun out of driving a slower car flat out than I do in the RS as you really need to be doing stupid speed to get a buzz in it. I think folk that live up in the highlands or Welsh valleys and see no or little traffic and have great roads are getting better use out of the car than me!

@smoothound – To be honest I do understand what you’re saying, it just took me longer to realise it. I did 7700 miles in my first year, 5000 miles in my second, this year it’ll probably be less again; the novelty of owning an RS wears off pretty quickly. Buy a Range Rover, it does everything beautify.
