    Hi

im looking at buying the Milltek Non resonated cat back and was wondering what sort of power the standard CAT is good for?

i want to get the car to 400BHP but will just a cat back be ok for this or will i require a sports cat?

    TIA

I have the stock cat on mine and I’m getting over 400bhp on the dyno but am tempted to get a sports cat for the noise!

your cat wont last long why not just de cat and if you get pulled over put the cat back on and take it off again no sense of wasting it if your cars modded already. It aint that big of a job to do I did it on my drive way or pay a garage cannot see them charging you more than an hour labour.

What do you mean by the cat wont last long? Will it deteriorate when running 400bhp?

    Hi Hammy,

How easy is it to get to the bolts on the turbo end? Did you take the battery out to get to them?

Did you do this just on axel stands? Any advice would be good before I give it a go!

    Cheers

yeah did it on axle stands dude.

lots of parts to come out just to give you access. battery and a support bracket under the car etc but they are all easy to access and put back on no drama. make sure you have the car as high as you can on your stands more room for you undercar.

the two bolts on the turbo side are always rusted they get backed every time you start the car so they will always be tight. plenty wd40 and let it soak and a couple of extensions on your socket and ratchet and just go back and forth until it becomes loose.

if you snap a bolt its no big drama either just get a new one from ford cheap as shit. use a hammer and a pin punch. punch it out the back side and re fit new one with a bit of grease. as I have said done this 3x and never had a bolt snap yet but it will happen one day.

the std cat is the worst part trying to get it out, a bit of rotating lifting it in different angles sliding it different ways and she will come out no probs. I have done it three time now and yeah would be a hundred times easier on a lift but that’s like every diy job on our car.

I have done all my mods to my car my self and I like to think I have a fair understanding of the car now. that’s with a just giving it ago attitude.I also watch a lot of videos on you tube and look for easier ways to do stuff.

once complete look out for smoke and burning smell from the engine bay its no panic its just the wd/40 burning off It will go away in a couple of rips on b roads.

    job done

ill attach a couple of links I used.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCnz_TmGxKU  this one is on a st not much difference but the v band and the flange are the other way around on rs good for reference tho.

    hope this helps dude

Only downside with a de-cat is if you crash and your cars recovered into a yard and your not able to change it. Well that’s if an assessor can be arsed checking. I’d rather run a sports cat for piece of mind

the above statement is a lie as nobody can stop you having access to your car apart from If its in a criminal investigation(do you plan on killing somebody on a public road use a track).

no insurance company no garage its your car fact unless you have a hire purchase in that case what you modding it for its not your car.

learn laws before you go spouting false facts. (my first one was I write off and had not one bit of problem just know your facts)

sports cat are for people that cannot be arsed changing it every mot (you will still blow a hole through it come time and if your a tree hugger why did you buy an rs?). also the decat will not make it much loader as in one video he starts it with any exhaust and it sound not that much louder than if it had the whole system fitted that’s resonator determined for noise.

get your arse under your car and stop being a tosser like shhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmeeeeeeeeeeeee and think you know anything about an rs because your paying somebody to do it and explain it to you.

    Lol ok

Well here’s a fact. Whilst in hospital for a week after a bad accident the insurance company took it appon themselves to access the car and proceed with the claim and offer a payout. Luckily for me the car was all legal so no issues. When I got of the hospital after a week I went to the yard where my car was recovered to only to find that the car had been picked up and taken down England somewhere! This was all done before funds were put into my account.

So do you think if I was in the same situation I could argue they have no right to check my car over until I take off whatever I need to to then make the car legal?

After that experience I will never run a decat again cause you never know what might happen.

its your car and it can only be moved if its a hazard and even then it will be put to a recovery company. fact you must have been taken for a mug.
