im thinking of fitting a race cat on my standard exhaust system.

the reason been is i cannot afford both cat back and cat at this moment in time.

would i benefit more from a cat back or fitting a race cat?

    Cheers

Have the same plan myself, way I see it if your tuning you need to reduce back pressure, the CAT comes before the pipe work and I would expect causes more back pressure than the system, Even the standard system is said to have good flow.

The reason I see for changing the system is people are after more noise.

If you change the catted down-pipe for either a sports cat or a de-cat without a map/tune above the FPM375 you’ll see an EML come on the dash.

You will need a Cobb or similar device with a tune the minimum is the Mountune M380.

So if you do the down-pipe route factor in a Cobb and map.

I’m really curious about this aswell.

and further more – how much do you “loose” in performance going with a sports cat rather than a de-cat?

As an example, Dreamscience run a standard exhaust up to U2+. Only on U3 do they recommend sports (or de) cat but still retained standard back box.

As above, rear box seems for sound only.

De-Cats are also a tad nosier than Sports Cats ?

This comment above is false I take the map off every time it goes back to ford just so they don’t fuck it up but don’t take the de cat off can state never once had a engine light fault code or anything. So think your speaking shit there.

    @Hammy

    to quote myself –

Please read what I have written, please read ………

Does your Dream science have a hand set ????????

My guess is, I think it does !!!!!!!

Please ignore Hammy’s answer it’s definitely FALSE as a false thing is.

    Thanks all.

i have a dreamscience handset for mapping the ca so should be all good on the EML side of things.

does anybody know if just fitting a race car makes much difference to the sound noise of the car?

    Cheers

Depends on the sports cat if a light gets thrown, I’m informed by the previous owner for my HJS200 cell it’s doesn’t throw a light, but other lesser quality ones can do.   Just what I’ve been advised, so we are all full of shit 😉

If the race cat is freer flowing that the OEM Ford cat then yes the noise level will increase. By how much???Is it a 100 / 200 cell or full race de-cat.

Then the gases hit the system and the noise levels again depend on this also. But decibels will rise.

Had my HJS200 cat fitted now, retaining standard exhaust.

Noise, doesn’t seem any louder, but has lower more richer fruity note, less raspy I think.  So well pleased.

I have my 375 map on, and all MT pipework and cooler.  It’s not throwing a EML light.  That said it has once.   After a couple of days of no issues I returned home and on idle something was knocking, cat or pipe against the floor by the sounds of it.  Next morning no knocking but it did through a light (P0420 code).

Knocking stopped, I’ve cleared the code an all is okay again.  So its booked in to check alignment hasn’t shifted and all is tight and leak free.

Engine feels great, much freer and smoother, more willing to pick up from lower revs as well. Has an effortless feel to it, which always seemed to escape the RS in standard spec.  Appears to me to be top mod to do.

I’ve had a mountune 200 cell sports cat delivered and it’s made by HJS.

Very interesting read, I’m currently running m380, I want to get a sports cat but want to keep the standard cat back as don’t want it any louder, haven’t heard of these hjs 200 cell cats before, are they any good and where are they available?

How do you know the mountune is a HJS as you say a mountune been delivered.

Not having a go just like to know how you came to that conclusion.
