has anyone removed this?
any gains?
any problems?
would it invalidate the warranty?
Hi
if you are leaving your car stock
there is no reason to remove the plate only needed to remove if you are upping the horse powe
Seen a few cars with this removed, with extra readings taken via an OBD reader it was showing lower intake temps with it removed but no power gains would be had without a map to suit.
Looking at the drop in intake temps it would make some difference if its has been mapped to suit but a standard car wont see any benefits apart from looking better.
id take it off only if I was doing a track day in the summer ( what’s that?) ie over 20c ! Every little helps.

Innit?
Was there any blanking plate in the first place? I don’t remember. Had my hot fun over the Alps at 38° Centigrade (yes, we have a summer in Switzerland). The only thing that got really hot downhill were the brakes, though 😀

According to the you tube video removing the blanking plate can produce droplets of water to form in the intercooler at certain temperatures which then are drawn into the engine causing misfires.

Yes Andy, thats what they said, but I still have a sneaky feeling that during testing they were getting the odd cold start misfires and finding the odd drop of water on the spark plugs mistakenly thinking it could only be from condensation forming in the IC, , maybe, just maybe it was the very first occurences of early head gasket failure !! I mean, of all the turbo cars in this world, and all the ones that get modded by folk just banging in an over efficient IC as the first upgrade, how many cases of water forming in one in any amount great enough to cause an issue been reported ? None? and .. lots of cars enjoy a little water injection to cool the inlet charge and increase horsepower, so to me, Fords excuse is possibly B.S.

Exactly my thoughts @71-bda
Ford have dropped a bollock by not having enough engineers with knowledge around the engine issue.
removed on day 2 after picking it up. did over 17’000km so far, car is mapped. dont know if more performance but my plate is like brand new and stored in bock if warranty claim will happen I can put it back on easily.
But they will never be able to claim this plate to be removed because when it is really hot and the dirt and water during driving will remove the plate anyway. it is just glued and very bad glued 😉 prefer the look without this ugly Ford Transit plate 😀

Mine fell off. I’ve not gotten around to going to the dealer to have a new one fitted yet, and to be honest, this is a really low priority at the moment. I’ll ask whether it needs to be replaced at the first service due at end of May…

@Rampant, I believe you cant get the plate on its own, I know back in 2016 folk were having to have the complete intercooler replaced !!

@rampant: Just buy a 6×6″ piece of 2 mm black PVC from B&Q with and double-sided adhesive tape – and you’re as good as new. The stock one wasn’t exactly rocket science either 😉

This seems to be the case with a lot of Ford parts. Have to buy the whole assembly if one tiny thing breaks

As an academic engineer, I can confirm that the supposed reason this blanking plate is fitted is utter blocks. At least as far as the UK is concerned.
I’m just not fussed about it having fallen off. If it needs to be replaced at the first annual service for “warranty purposes”, then so be it. However, I will stress to Ford (Ford direct, not the dealer concerned, who will just angle to complete the warranty work and take the coin from Ford for the irrelevant work) that if it means spunking out on a complete new intercooler, at their own expense, then I’m happy for them not to bother (provided that, in writing, this course of action doesn’t invalidate the warranty).
Yours Aye

Even Norwegian Taxis have no blanking plates – at the same latitude as the Shetlands. Makes you wonder, innit 😉
