    probably its “ok” for the std cars but the 2+ will perform way better on a bolt-on modded RS like Hammy told already.

    I will first move to HG replacement and then do the bolt-ons. also waiting if there are others that have broken transfer gear-boxes with a high torque map. I am still not sure why my gear-box failed that early (15’500km on clock) and Ford just changed it but did not send any informations if there was just a manufacturing error that moved to my failure of transfer-gearbox.

    @Hammy
    : for Ultima 2+ do you drive V-Power only? or good branded 98 ? like BP Ultima 98 or something?

    How did you know you had a problem before taking it to ford and them saying it was your transfer gearbox? Just cause mine crunches a bit going into 6th and is a bastard getting into 1st and reverse gears and sometimes slight resistance going into 4th like it wants to pop out?

    hey Dave. the transfer gearbox is the word I found by translating it. its the unit that sends the power to front and rear axel. not the 6-speed gear unit.

    the gear box is still fine but sometimes I also can not put in reverse and 1st gear. mostly when it is very cold or car was not moved for more than 48hrs.

    need to clutch twice or even move in 2nd gear a bit that 1st gear fits then. have this with and without short shifter and asked Ford if they can adjust it but they say no its not possible.

    That my transfer gear box is broken I did not know. I brought car to dealer for the first annual service work and told them, that I have some droning between 82km/h up to 88km/h. it was a sound or droning like driving on the road marking paint. first they said its coming from my tyres but I already changed it. I also did a alignement of all wheels to be sure everything is ok. sound still there. They lifted the car and turned the wheels and from below the car they clearly hear the noise was coming from the transfer gear box. They removed it and replaced. the broken one already had chips in it. but why and how to avoid is still missing. never had this issue on my Cosworth’s with even double or triple the stock power. so thats why I think that my unit was a manufacturing error because a lot of RS drivers use the Ultima and I did never read something similiar.

    Here in this picture is the full drive train without the 6th speed gearing box. in front of the picture is the front axle and this unit who is sending power to front and rear wheels was broken. First the dealer told me that the rear differential is broken but when I picked it up they told me the transfer gear box is replaced and he did inform me wrong by phone. I was shocked when hearing the rear differential is dead but even more shocked that the transfer gearbox is broken.

    Time will show if it happens again, updated my handheld today and will put Ultima 2 on the car now. not sure about 2+ because I prefer V-Power but I also wanna be able to drive the car too if I do not find any V-Power and use 98 instead.

    hammys a firm believer of “every little bit helps” !

    No nothing.

    No Mods. No rockers. Just a chunky knob, thats now been replaced by an RS knob innit.

    No tackiness.

    Std as Ford intended, but with a space saver wheel and jack and nuts and wheel brace. oh.. and flaps, a man has got to have flaps.

    Innit?

    nope just know most mapped cars are mapped to higher octane fuel.

    Yes i know what you’re on about now the power transfer unit or ptu. That’s strange it broke and makes me think if getting the ptu brace that Mountune do is actually worth it. It’s strange cause the only weak point i can see is at the end of the drive shaft as it thins out. Hopefully all is well for you now though but the gearbox worries me sometimes i know people put motul dct in which is meant to help it

    @Hammy : thanks to let me know. running car since day 1 with BP Ultima 98 octane or V-Power from Shell. The BP Ultimate is very high quality and is 98+.

    @RSDave
    : The housing did not break and the mountune piece is just for outside because they say the casting could break. my PTU broke inside. not really broke but massive wear out of the gears that there were already chips and shiver everywhere.

    Yes I did this on my Escort Cosworth to achieve some more smooth shifting. but the RS from my wifey is perfect to shift. even after 1 week non used drive all gears goes in like butter. maybe I put some  Liquid Moly ATF in it. just to see if its better then.

    The ptu broke internally bloody heck must’ve been a dodgy 1 from factory cause they don’t look like a weak point seems pretty robust.

    I never thought about liqui moly atf i think a combo of that with motul dct and the shifts would be sublime. I also put liqui moly oil additive in aswell i find its always made my cars tick over better whilst the oils cold

    @RSDave : thats my thought too! thats why the car is already tuned again 😉 never saw a PTU go down so far on any Ford cars I had. Only 1 exploded on the MFK (MOT in UK) because the idiot went on the braking tester and run only rear wheels and the Escort Cosworth PTU just exploded below the car!

    Then he said “oh well, did not know its a 4×4 car.” they had to pay it but the time we had to find a good one was unpayable…
