K&N Filters have just released a new intake system for the Focus RS. The ‘Typhoon Air Intake’ is a complete replacement of the OEM factory air filter, intake tube, and air filter housing and claiming to give a ‘whooping’ 33 horsepower at the wheels?!

As you can see from the picture above the moulded scoop funnels cold outside air toward the filter. Air is then directed through the intake tube into the engine’s throttle body. The intake tube is powder-coated in an attractive blue finish that matches the Focus RS badging.

Included in the 69-3539TB Typhoon air intake kit is a K&N high-flow air filter and a heat shield that installs in the original factory mounting location. Much of the horsepower gain can be attributed to the oversized conical air filter manufactured from multiple layers of oiled cotton filter media — which offers less resistance than the standard Ford filter. The multi-layered red cotton material which will last up to 100,000 miles also filters out microparticles that could damage your engine.

@blechdosenbill.. on the graph it shows a maximum power gain of 33bhp at 4900 revs I think, up from std 225bhp to 258bhp, and a 30lb increase in torque at 3500 revs from 203 to 233 lbs ft, its not quoting an increase in the max power output, that appears to remain the same which seeems weird! It looks too good to be true if you ask me, the midrange increases look more like the results from a re-map ! and strange how it was rolling roaded in 2nd gear , I thought that was power/torque limited??

    No nothing.

No Mods. No rockers. Just a chunky knob, thats now been replaced by an RS knob innit.

    No tackiness.

Std as Ford intended, but with a space saver wheel and jack and nuts and wheel brace. oh.. and flaps, a man has got to have flaps.

    Innit?
