Why? The ST will always be at least 75-100 bhp less than the equivalent model compared to an RS.

In a similar way an RS Fiesta would also be at least 100bhp lesser that the Focus RS if it wasn’t it would embarrass its bigger brother in the 0-60 sprint.

What i meant was the issues RS owners are having with the eco boost engine not the power difference.

Ford have said it will be hybrid for the new emmisions rules plus they want to cash in on the popularity of the RS by selling it earlier in much the same way Merc audi and BMW do with their performance cars.

One of the RS’s “jobs” is to reinvigorate interest in a mark as the average life of a focus Mark is around 7-8 years with a 3-4 year ish facelift.

As after 5 years the model has began to become stale and the RS launch in the last 3 years of the marks life is basically an interest raiser in the model again. With the Zetec owner now having a connection with the RS boosting sales.

Releasing the RS earlier could / would sell more RS, but would they loose out in later years in a loss of sales against say GM on bread and butter cars, who release their Astra in or around the 6th year of the Focuses life.

It might be hybrid but the RS models are rarer than bmw, audi and Merc performance cars as they update and bring out new models for the fun of it. If ford do release the next RS in 2020 which i don’t think they will then I’d be really disappointed in ford for following the German trash train
