Hi. After 33 years of owning a MK1 RS1600 I thought it was about time to buy a new Ford. I really was against the MK3 Focus RS when I first saw pictures and very much a ” I want a 3 door” chap as I saw ( and still do really, see a 3 door as a more suitable and sporty bodyshell) but kind of got caught up in all the hype and reviews so ordered one just before the latest price increase on  May 1st. never had so much trouble choosing a colour before !!! hated the Nitrous blue in pictures, but loved it when I saw it in a showroom, then I saw it out in real bright sunlight and decided I disliked it again !! I decided against the greys as thought they kind of disappeared into the background and tarmac, I liked the black, but thought a lot of the styling details were lost , so not being able to order a Race Red or a Tangerine Scream like the ST are available in, I plumped for Frozen White after a  HELL OF A LOT of mind changing !! ( Im still not 100% happy with the colours available though!!) then theres the seats!! I thought ” you just MUST have the shell seats” but.. with no height adjustment and worrying about the bolsters being possibly really prone to wear and tear and  ‘bending down’ and really not seeing how they are £1150 more than the std seats ( which to me seem better quality and more ‘worth the money’) I opted for the std seats ( also thinking they may be more comfy on a long run and day to day use with what seems like FIRM suspension!) Next decision was to roof or not to roof!!  so many RS fans seem to be against sunroofs as not being apt for a RS, but I feel that modern cars with a pollen filter and sloping windscreen dont really have much, if any airflow through the vents unless you have the heater fan on continually, my old Escort has loads of flow through the vents at speed without fan on, and I like having the option to just have the roof open/ tilted up so you can get fresh air without the fan on. Wheels?? Ive NEVER liked black wheels, I think they look awful when dirty/brake dusty, and can look ‘small’ and kind of ‘disappear’ under the arches and in photos, but decided to order them anyway !! maybe I will buy a 2nd hand set of the std silver ones in time… Also gone for the Lux pack ( even though I think having blacked out rear side windows looks a bit weird), the door protectors, city stop safety thing and the sync 2 / speaker stuff upgrade. Im just hoping the econo stop/start thing doesnt wind me up, ( do you need to turn it off everytime you start up if you want it off?) Do the sound systems really sound ‘awful’ like so many folk say? Does the car REALLY pipe fake generated engine noise through the speakers to make the actual engine sound sportier/noisier??!!  Ive just heard my order is scheduled for a build date in September , and delivery expected late October-ish. CANT WAIT !!  CheeRS

    No nothing.

No Mods. No rockers. Just a chunky knob, thats now been replaced by an RS knob innit.

    No tackiness.

Std as Ford intended, but with a space saver wheel and jack and nuts and wheel brace. oh.. and flaps, a man has got to have flaps.

    Innit?

Good spec. I also went for white (everyone and his dog is going for blue) and you have to have the black wheels. I got talked-into getting the shell seats by a friend because I’m weak-willed. I only ordered in April, so I’ve got a massive wait.

Welcome Mike seems like it was a stressful few weeks decided the spec. It really can be so difficult from seeing a car in a showroom and trying it for 30 minutes to living with it for several years but good on you for taking your time. You also have one eye thinking about resell value but should always choose a spec according to what you want.

If still not 100% sold on the colour could a full body wrap be an option?

Hi Kenny, thanks for the reply,  not sure about the cost of wrapping? i bet its expemsive, and i dont like the idea of buying a brand new car and then covering up the paintwork ! Bit like buying a new sofa and fitting a cover so you keep it nice ( for the next owner or dump) !! Ive seen those twin stripe someone put on one, may do a variation of that if i feel it could do with a bit of colour or livening up!! If ONLY you could do a SVO special vehicle order like you used to be able to, then id definitely have the Race Red or the Tangerine Scream or maybe even a dark silver/ titanium  sort of colour !! i trust you are well happy with yours so far ?
