Hi everyone, I’m a new member from Wollongong nsw Australia. Im very interested in buying a 2017 RS Focus but I have noticed there is serious problems with the engine blowing up. Can any one tell me any further info about this problem and has Ford acknowledged and rectified the problem? Cheers Guys .
Hi Ian, welcome to the forum.
The RS engine issues are a bit over done. A lot of people seems to carryout modifications that are not Ford approved and then expect Ford to repair it when it goes wrong. My local dealer has had a single car with an engine failure and Ford have sent down a new engine and it’s in the process to being replaced. The engine of the car was not modified.
Take out the extended warranty as it’s not a lot of money if it’s available in Australia and the Ford three year servicing plan. Both are well worth the money.
In summary it’s an outstanding car which is a joy to drive.
To add to @red-leaders point, its a great car unless you like to modify. If you leave it stock at least engine wise if anything happens you will be covered, re-sale, trade in, and perception of quality however may be an issue later on.
My engine has cracked or so I believe just waiting for ford to confirm what problem is, will update you, the car is amazing if it wasn’t for this problem, my car has done 4000 miles and is stock, haven’t been to track yet either, but I do drive it quite hard most of the time but it seems the engine block can’t cope with the way it is meant to be driven
What aloud of rubbish red leader and turbo whatever name is there are plenty of people with modified cars that have no problem. Stop spending false lies.
Hammy !! calm down mate you’l have a stroke or bust a blood vessel ! and breath…. in……. out……..in……..out.!
No nothing.

Innit?

Not in the US, lots of 2016 headgasket failures most that result in complete engine replacements, nothing wrong with telling this guy the truth. And since all engines where built in Spain the failures will be global. Later build dates are unproven at this time probably because they haven’t accrued enough miles. If you see the thread and survey below most of the failures where at stock power levels. And since not every RS owner belongs to a forum or Facebook the actual number of failures are probably much higher. Its a great car absolutely, maybe just stay away from the early build dates.
Keyboard hero comes to mind.
If your facts were right my car would have exploded by now.
And the rest of the guys in the world that have modded there rs.
Stop speaking nonsense stupid americain.
Hammy !! thats real HARSH. Fact is all of the blocks are basically made the same, you cant ‘luck-in’ and get a strong block or one that has been made slightly thicker on the wall thickness due to production tolerances, they will all be within a few thousandths of an inch exactly the same. All common sense suggests that if you treat it gently it will probably last forever, treat it a bit harder and at some point a long way down the line it could crack a block and hence headgasket failure etc etc, if you drive a std 345bhp one real hard all the time, do a few launches, maybe a few trackdays, then it would seem you are bringing the ‘failure date’ forwards, and if you tune it and drive it hard all the time too, then its going to crack/fail even sooner. Some people may tune theirs to 400bhp and at the moment are fine, that could be because they don’t drive it flat out that much and only use the performance on the odd occasion. On the German forums it seems like a fair few blokes with std engines are failing at 16000-24000Km , so, maybe everyone in the UK who has a garage queen car or only does 3-5000miles a year may well think he has a good engine and wont get the failure until the car is 4 or 5 years old. Will be VERY interesting to see how yours holds up as its tuned, what power do you have? and , do you drive it flat out a lot, or just give it a tickle now and then? and your mileage?

That’s not necessarily so, if it’s a design fault then all will be affected, then Ford will eventually be called to task to recall and replace all. The other possibility is process and manufacturing error. One theory I heard there are several casting plants, some had process issues and substandard blocks were cast. So it could well be a lottery, how it’s driven or mildly tuned ie 375 shouldn’t make much differnce, not to the extent of busting a block. During testing Ford would have hammered the engine to the extreme on a test bed.
To my mind two possibilities, manufacturing issue or thermal heat issue causing local stresses, which would then be design based error. Which should have shown up in testing. Ford will know by now the root cause, I heard they have ring fenced budget to cover the warranty costs.

You and your group of followers spread alot of crap you have not a clue what your speaking about.
I have been tuning cars for years and your bullshit and the shit your followers state as fact are totally bullshit.
Grow up you very stupid and narrow minded people.
Go look at your standard cars in your garage that your scared to do anything with because it will break.
Kenny can a section be set up for these STD fascist group. So most people don’t have to read the crap on a daily basis.
For these balloons.
Your car industry does not exist anymore.
Cars are like white goods now not ment to be on the road for more than 7 years.
Your on about 5 years you will be lucky to own a petrol car by then because of the tax on climate change etc.
As I have stated before Mike the world you think you know is not anymore change with the times. A massive problem in the country. Nothing stays the same our it would be a boring place stuck in the 70s.
Keep it calm Hammy no need to start ranting. Can we keep it polite please.
The facts are both standard and modified engines have had issues.
This forum is becoming more and more like a school yard!
