Sync 3 update problems

Question for the guys who have updated their Sync 3.

I’ve tried a number of times to update the software and failed.

I’ve tried different versions of the download, direct from Ford, and different USB sticks, still nothing.

Followed the instructions to the letter, formatting the USB to Fat-ex etc etc. Stuck now, any suggestions?

Did ya get updated? I always use sandisk pen stick either a 32gb or 64gb I have, never had any issues in update.

Nope, tried a Kingston and a Lexar stick, 16GB so plenty of room.

Back to the drawing board.

I have only updated the maps using SanDisk memory stick. My supporting dealer did the sync update but charge for map update. I was under the impression that minimum memory size for memory stick needs to be 32gb.

@coastliner, yeah I want to update the maps but as you say the software needs to be updated first.

I think the files are only 2 – 3 GB, but I’ll try a 32GB stick. Need to check if they are USB 2 or 3.

Hello everyone. I’ve just tried to update sync but it did not even recognize the pendrive. The user manual says that it takes (max) 8 mins to read the pendrive but mine didn’t do anything. Any recommendations, experiences? How long did it take in your case to start installation?

I’ve been using 8gb pendrive which has been formatted (exfat) prior to the install. Ignition was on obviously but engine did not run.

Mine only takes a few seconds to recognise the USB drive.

Try a different make, maybe larger capacity?

Noticed a new map update when i logged onto my Ford Account. 25gb taking 12 hours to download. Left it on overnight so 85 per cent complete. Use either Sony or Sandisc.
