Well it looks like England is going to follow good old Sturgeon (that said and many other countries) and make masks compulsory in shops and no doubt museums and other indoor venues. Not sure how i feel about this, its certainly making think twice about visiting anywhere if we have to wear one. Don’t get me wrong if people want to wear them then fine but its not for me.

They say the science is saying mask make sense in slowing transmission, yet at the minute the uk has only around 25% wearing them and our rate is dropping yet look at USA 65% wear them and their rate is climbing massively, to me that suggests masks have little to no effect on the transmission rate, but hay i am no scientist so what do I know, lets all ware masks and rob the shops as no one can see what we look like Ha Ha.

I think they help by stopping sick people spreading the cov, but if its in the air I dont think the filtration of any of these masks is fine enough to stop it. I hate wearing one, I tried a couple, but to me it seems you are breathing in what you just breathed out, it seems to me that a lot of stale breathe stays in the mask when you exhale, they gave me a headache and sore throat and felt rough after wearing for a few hours, so i gave up with them !

Masks go on a scale of how much they filter out, ppf 1,  ppf2,  ppf3 the last being the best filter for small airborne particles and in theory the best for viruses if you can breath through them without passing out ( can be a bit like being at altitude)

now people making masks from they’re underpants, socks and old T-shirts that’s on the WTF scale rated on a scale of how fast your going to die

fact is without proper training and proper fit to face they are debatable, the outside of the mask may become contaminated and you mishandle it, if not made from the correct material it becomes a damp medium collecting anything in the air not just Coronavirus, if a virus is in the air bad enough for you to wear a mask it’s already all over your clothes

it’s about the viral dose you get, small dose body fights and eventually wins over, big dose body overwhelmed virus wins, we all breath out moisture it travels through the air and settles on surfaces more when we talk, shout or cough, the more people or more confined the space the more potential to come in contact with it, have you ever walked up the street and smelled someone’s vape pen? Cigarette smoke? You just inhaled what they breathed out!

any precautions are worth taking, cleanliness and sanitisers the best but this thing is going nowhere and it’s basically a lottery

stay safe everyone! On a lighter note my 83 year old mum got it in hospital, she’s home now after six weeks and all clear ?

    @Tall_Paul thats good to hear.

My mom is a nurse and she did contracted covid19 5 weeks ago. She had phenomena complications but thank god recovered. She is back in the front lines.

My eldest sister is a respiratory specialist, another front liner.

Some people are saying covid19 is a conspiracy, from what I saw and what my love ones been through and seen, I will take their word for it and wear a mask, not just to protect myself but others.

I don’t think it will it happen. Keep the elderly wearing them but everyone else just needs to get back to normal now. Everyone just needs to be sensible and stay out of peoples way. I don’t want to stand any closer than 1m anyway.

i went into 2shops yesterday in aberdeen – Lidl and Boots and every single person had a mask on.

last week it would be <10%

people, in general, are not distancing though. You can see a trend depending on the store – Lidl is pretty much a free for all and Sainsbury’s is mostly compliant. Local tyre place is non existent.

I am very much in the camp of letting things return to normal – I accept this is a very real threat, but so is the other damage that is getting done. Those at risk (that includes my wife undergoing cancer treatment) need to be exceptionally careful and need support measures in place to keep them safe and those in the family circle.

Many other people have a very small chance of being effected and so should have much less restrictions imposed.

Wearing face masks in confined spaces, temperature checks on people (shopping centres, airports, etc), and travel ban from known hotspots is so obvious to me that i am still stunned it wasnt done in March

The problem with masks is people think it gives them immunity, they don’t. You still need to take the other precautions, like keeping your distance and washing your hands.

I also think it should be up to the individual ie. if you know you are going into a crowded place and feel safer wearing one good for you. If the virus is so prevalent and is so airborne as soon as you take the mask off you are at risk ?

Bob, theres no way I’m getting on a plane until at least next spring, May time, cancelled 3 holidays this year, gutted, but will just wait it out and see how the situation is after the expected next outbreak in the winter. Might be time to turn into a real old fart and buy a motorhome and go travelling instead of flying !

@bda, likewise cancelled flights for this year. Like the idea of buying a motor home or for that matter a CARAVAN but that will upset Greta big time ????

@bobcat @bda we to have cancelled our over seas holiday this year and moved to next year. Think we could have gone but it was the thought of paying all that money for a holiday into the unknown and not fully enjoying our well earned break. The only thing is now I have lots of time off in the next 6 weeks not sure what we are going to do to keep the kids happy or myself for that matter.

We do have a Haven holiday to look forward to in October but what thats going to be like god knows. We go over the half term which is always busy so how the are going to fit people into their club house to keep people entertained we shall wait and see. I can see it raining and being stuck in a caravan for 5 days with 2 kids and the wife. Thinking about it maybe work sounds a better option
