    Hi everyone.

I currently own a 2009 focus 1.6 ti vct zetec s. I am looking at upgrading and fancy a mk3 St fl.

    Something like a 2016/2017 car.

I used to have a mk1 1.8 tdci 115bhp and it was great, good fuel economy and good performance. Since getting the petrol 1.6 ti vct it’s not as punchy as the tdci and nowhere near as good on fuel.

    I do around 7000 miles a year.

I have seen a few mk3 St fl models about but not sure whether to go petrol or diesel.

Diesel has more appeal as its cheaper to tax and better mpg but not sure how you guys find your mk3 St for average mpg. My current car does about 31 mpg so the ST may not be much worse.

Also wondering if there are any faults that petrol and diesel are common for.

    Many thanks all.

? Interesting are you sure you are on the right Forum……. RS owners are not usually bothered with fuel economy

Go try a Diesel auto one.

    No nothing.

No Mods. No rockers. Just a chunky knob, thats now been replaced by an RS knob innit.

    No tackiness.

Std as Ford intended, but with a space saver wheel and jack and nuts and wheel brace. oh.. and flaps, a man has got to have flaps.

    Innit?

If it helps I had a petrol mk3 Focus ST before moving up to the RS and could get 34mpg on a run, but as said on here don’t worry about mpg, go have some fun

i would say diesel is not the way to go now with new emission rules

I had a MK3 Focus ST diesel before the RS and I was averaging around 45mpg from it, over 50mpg on a motorway run…Plenty of poke in it too…

exactly Mexicoian ! A wave of smooth seamless torque not interrupted by gearchanges. The auto st diesel is what I nearly went for before the RS came out, its a great allrounder.

Thanks for all your responses. The car would only go to town and back, approx 5-6 miles there and back a day with a spin on weekends. I wasn’t sure if the diesel would like the short trips

True diesels are not fond of short trips, and have a tendency to soot up and would need a weekend blast.
