Anyone had any experience with ceramic coatings? Are they worth it. I’m using a paint sealant polymer coat and carnuba wax every 6 months and top up of polymer every 3 months. I have it done by a local valeter and I must say the car always looks great. I’ve been looking into the ceramic but not sure if nearly a £1000 will give me a better result. Any advice or recommendations?
Personally I wouldn’t bother unless it’s a daily driver
Although will give you up to 2 years protection
I have paint protection film on mine.
Have not saved $$$ to get ceramic coating yet.
Coating helps it keep it cleaner longer. I know some owners gets a good coat of hard wax. Not as expensive as ceramic coating, but might be 2x a year rather than once every 2 yrs.
ill go other way…….only do it if its not a daily!
they do make it easier to clean, but prone to water spots and contamination.
My MK3 benefits from it as its a bit of a garage queen. Its been near useless on the wifes car thats left outside all the time and not so carefull on the washes
Perhaps not a true ceramic as such but I’ve coating mine with auto finesse ceramic paint protection. Been done about 4 weeks now and I’m impressed with it. Nothing sticks to it, even the soap runs straight off when washing ?.
I’ve been using the hybrid spray stuff from meguiars, noting really sticks not even Auto glum snow foam, have used the meguiars snow foam which is recommended but bit pricey for 3-4 washes ☹️
For £1000 I am not sure it would be worth it. That could pay for a proper detail every 6 months for 5 years with a high quality products for that.
Paint Protection Film is excellent if its protection you are looking for.
Or you could have a go your self
If you are being quoted £1000 then hell no… I paid £500 to have mine done with Ceramic Pro and I had multiple coatings done. Is it worth it? As a daily driver and out in the elements 24/7 – deffo. Car looks as good as new. I dont have the time for marathon detailing sessions like the old days so I can do the whole car including interior in under two hours which suits me fine!
I’ve had mine coated from new
makes cleaning easier but don’t protect from stone chips
if I could go back I’d have gone for ppf
Agree with @jonyboy , Heat protection and Ceramic coat from nearly new, car outside 365 days a year, makes cleaning much easier and good protection from Seagull Shite which was my main reason for doing it.
Washed with the special shampoo for my Coating and looks great after a wash.
Just wish I’d also gone for PPF on the front from new, bumper looks like an old pub dart board when close up, haha!!
Full Coating was £500, including wheels and Brake Calipers, all plastics etc. Took 5 days to do the whole lot. Only thing not coated was the windscreen. That also included full paint and plastic correction before application.
Got it slightly cheaper as I know the lad that does it, he reckoned on a new car you should have protection for at least 3 years. Product used is called Diamas SiRAMIK. ??.
Cheers, Marc.

Thanks for all the advice. The quote was for gtechniq full treatment inside and out and engine bay. Still undecided but theres a ceramic pro place in Bolton not far from me so I’ll drive down in my leave and have a word. Thanks again all
I had the Gtechniq crystal serum topped up with exo applied from new so nearly 3 years ago, i try to wash it once a week with just one bucket but do snowfoam first and stuff, always comes up like new and is still silky smooth when washing, very few swirl marks to the naked eye in daylight, can’t fault the product, car is left on drive overnight, can’t remember the exact cost as i had the front bumper ppf’d as well but it was about £1200 all in.
I paid just under a grand for full decon, single stage polish and GTechniq Black Serum (meant to last 7 years) which has now been superceded by Ultra (meant to last 9 years).
After 2.5 years (but only about 8000 miles), I would say its fantastic stuff. Water beading is by far better than any waxes or hydrophobic sealants ive used on other cars and the gloss is also excellent.
I’d recommend a good ceramic professionally applied but it does only reduce the need for and help with cleaning and protection against bird shit etc but it does not reduce stone chipping. PPF is needed for that.
Quick snow foam and rinse and it shines like a bas**rd!.
That is one Gorgeous looking RS mate!!
Love the Mag Grey. Absolutely stunning!!
