An article has been published by Autotrader.co.za (South Africa) with regards to Ford are currently working on a fix with regards to the current engine issues on the Mk3 Focus RS.

    Article summary:

Ford South Africa has confirmed that a solution to the spate of engine failures on low-mileage Ford Focus RS models will be found for “all owners”. This follows AutoTrader’s  report on incidents of engine block cracks and head gasket failures on the desirable 2016-2017 Ford Focus RS all-wheel-drive hatchbacks in mid-October.

The powerful and fast RS was introduced to the South African market in July 2016. The list price of this expensive, complex all-wheel-drive hatchback is currently stated at R699 900, although some RS devotees report that dealer discounts are being offered on this car at some dealerships.

    “Ford is Aware”

Since the report, AutoTrader has received correspondence from Ford on the subject. On October 31, AutoTrader received the following correspondence form Ford’s media office in South Africa:

Below please find our latest feedback re Focus RS.

Ford is aware that some 2016-17 Focus RS customers have experienced concerns with their engines, which may initially show white exhaust smoke and/or coolant consumption. We are working on a repair for all customers. In the meantime, if vehicles show these symptoms, customers should visit their dealer for an inspection and repair under warranty.

Meanwhile, Mr Meent Borcherds, a Focus RS owner who initially brought the engine problem to AutoTrader’s attention, has received confirmation in a letter from Ford South Africa that states that a repair for all customers is being investigated and that as soon as we have details on what the repair entails, we will be in touch.

They have stated ‘all’ customers in several articles. Does that mean that will even repair modded vehicles?

The reason I ask, is ford is currently checking if the vehicle has been modifed before a HG failure. Imo as it’s a common issue, I feel they should still be replacing regardless if the vehicle is modded or not.

Anyway, it looks like progress. If it’s true progress or not, we will have to wait and see.

I’d rather them do a recall before many more fail.

The comment re “all customers” is the biggest question mark isn’t it.

Is this Ford admitting the problem is still present in the later cars? (Mark Cup’s recent failure would seem to suggest so), and does it mean the fix will be needed for everything? Does it mean they actually don’t have anything ready yet?

All sounds very wishy washy when they need to be very clear about such a major problem.

I have recently spoken to Ford Uk customer services and they advised that they could not confirm if the current production is any different. I have a car on order, so I’m not overly happy that they are remaining tight lipped.

They need to release a statement as it’s looking like the issue is not yet resolved and tested or it might just be Ford has to get all their divisions in different countries to agree on an action.

No time-scales, No inclination as to what the issue is, No communication apart from vague statements.

The only consolation, they at least officially admit an engine issue; what issue we still don’t know.

We surmise it, as it could be Head gasket, Block casting or cylinder head material? Or all 3 or just 1.

Its just like Christmas, you’ve got the box just don’t know what’s in innit

@Hammy has a fair point really.

We all purchased these cars due to the features as advertised like launch control, it’s a Track day car, 4.5seconds (FPM) 0-60, 1G of lateral G-Force and erm we’ll drift mode.

Why purchase a car based on its qualities and then drive it like a Zetec, just in case it breaks. If that’s the case WE should of all bought a Zetec and banked the other £18k

that’s what I was on about just did not have he time to properly write cheers @white-rs2.

its a standard option and does not say in the manual can only be used once and your car will explode.

think its more that people think that launch control is ragging the tits off your car the hint is in the name of it (control).
