lol @ davers2 !! I had an ex who met a bloke from Nz, got married, went there to live, came back after 8 years an alcoholic, and totally changed, she had nothing good to say about the place and died a year later aged 40. Must say after watching that motorway patrol program the place seems to be full of drunk bad drivers and yobs! Shame ad I’ve always thought of it as a quaint old fashioned place that I might escape to if and when England gets too bad !

Mike, I loved the place and my missus is now quite keen on going as she’s been told about the high standards in schools and Uni’s as she is a teacher and we have 2 kids. I read a couple of years ago that they have 18 listed University’s and every one of them is in the worlds top 100.

The beaches in the north especially are really nice. The mountains in the south are stunning and there’s no-one there – it’s great!.

    Yes Mike,

This year alone, multiple churches have been burnt down and Christians mass murdered in Egypt, Turkey, Pakistan and Nigeria.. Also, there have been racial murders in Lybia and Syria yet the mainstreem media cover all of this up and just focus on NZ and that Welsh fella who ploughed into that dodgy Mosque in London??. Oh, nearly forgot the Jo Cox murder, BBC presenters and Radio hosts on LBC always defer the conversation to Jo Cox.

Its estimated that about 12 million murdered Christians in Turkey and Iraq in the last few hundred years and as many as 40 million Hindu’s, Christians and Seek’s in India since Mohammed walked, as well as millions of Buddhists in Afghanistan and Indonesia.

Why don’t we get taught about all of this and why do the media cover it up??.

does sound good Dave, but I think I still am after a warm climate all year round, had enough of 6 months a year of grey/cold /wet blighty , and I think ‘down there’ its pretty miserable in the winter?

I was there mid winter and it was fine. In the very north (can’t remember where I was but they where building the set for Lord of the Rings), you could still get away with T shirt and shorts. Spent a few weeks in Queenstown on the south island snow boarding with a bunch of crazy Japanese guys and of course its cold in the mountains, but I remember every day being nice and sunny.

Whats more… When I arrived in Auckland I went straight down to the harbour looking for a pint and I ended up in a place called Davenport. I sat at the bar and strewth, they had Boddies on tap (I had been living in Australia and all over south east Asia for over a year by this point).

I turned round, and outside the window I saw:

1 Mk1 Escort – Brown 4 door that looked mint

1 Morris Minor – Black of course but again almost pristine

and 1 Mk 2 Escort – white I think that needed a bit of bodywork but looked OK.

It felt weird and all through my time in NZ it did feel like England in the 70’s with loads of old fashioned English stuff.

In Oz I saw loads of RS2000’s (The Professionals stylee)for sale for hundreds or just a thousand dollars or so, All in ex condition. This was in the late nineties. I thought then I should buy and import a few but being a lazy bastard I just didn’t. Doh!.

I also agree about all the persecutions of the Christians the ones dying for their beliefs, only reason i mentioned it was coz christchuch was brought up and it was so close to home.

Yes it does get cold in winter in taupo where i am it gets down to about 2 degrees but the highs are about 12 degrees at the same time remembering im right next to snow laden mountains as youll see, in summer gets up to about 25-27 degrees, but i think this makes up for it:
