Yeah agreed – probably my most disappointing part of the car but something I can live with considering you want to hear the engine anyway 🙂

I’m totally with you on this. The sound is pants. My old 2008 Focus with Sony DAB system is 100 times better than this piece of poop. The bass from the speakers on my old car is also better than the subwoofer by a long chalk.

Totally disappointed with it, think Ford should sort this out.

It’s called cost reduction all the mainstream OEM’s are doing it …..   I just come from the premium sound system in 2013 Volvo V40, not even branded, it was actually very good for a car. ….  I hate broom brooooooom noise from the sub, fake exhaust noise …. No thanks.

This upgrade should be refunded by ford its a waste of boot space and hurts my ears with such bad sound quality

The distortion is very very poor for sure – before this I had an M3 with the BMW Business stereo (the middle of the road one that is just below Harmon Kardon) – it makes the Ford one look like a £20 Halfords job – very disappointing – especially considering how much Ford raped everyone for the unit.

Totally agree with the comments regarding boot space as well – I just don’t get the layout – they could have shunted the sub and tyre foam kit into one side of the boot with the sub on its side rather than facing downward and had a 20cm deeper boot floor instead of filling it with space sapping foam that serves no purpose.  Mind boggling, I’d have thought cost would have been pretty small to sort that out and manufacture a custom enclosure for the sub wrapped in carpet.

I’d keep the option for sure,  if you don’t like the sound quality (gets a little better after some use)  I would retro fit some better speakers…  Haven’t searched what’s available yet, but I plan to.

In the new year ford is ditching Sony in favour of Bang & Olufsen. Not sure if any RS will be fitted with them though.

Best to get new software flashed on to the amp first, believe Ford have a campaign for this.

If that fails to impress it’s time for a stereo build, connects2 do the front door collars and I’ve got a set of Phoenix gold 6.5 components to try.

But think it will need an audison bit ten to clean it up.

I like how it works with the SYNC 3. But the speakers are not good at all. They will need changing. My fiesta st sounded a lot better. Will have to see what other speakers can get for it.

But on a good note. Only picked her up on Friday and It’s the only thing I can find up with it.

I noticed in the early RS’s the front tweeters even with the upgrade didn’t come with the Sony branding. I did wonder in their haste to produce cars if they had been left out ?  I was very disappointed with the stereo but listened to what was supposed to be the same set up in an ST and it sounded much better.

The upgrade cost over £2000 in Denmark!!!!

Too late for me to change now though.

I have seen a video of a spanish owner where he removed the sub and all the foam stuff to get back the boot space. Repacked the tyre kit elsewhere…
