Matt I did the same and set the balance to compensate but after having the 3824 software installed it’s so much better. Have it done when you get a service or HG fixed and see what you think.

Hello I have a 2017 Frozen white RS. I replaced the stock Sony speakers with kicker csc65.  The difference was incredible the audio is so much clearer now and when installing buy the connector that just plugs in without splicing or wire chasing.

I added kicker csc65 speakers that plug right into the existed harness and the quality of the new speakers is night and day compared to the stock Sony.

I don’t think their is anything wrong with the 10 speaker set up in my rs, very happy with it. The M3 set up which I’ve had myself is a car that cost twice as much new as a new rs. It certainly is not twice as good. I must have been very lucky when my car was built because I can’t find a thing wrong with it

I listened to a B&O system in a new Fiesta at the weekend. 10 times better than my RS even with the software update.

@ chris54 – I’ve recently ordered a new M3 with Harmon Kardon speakers, which, during my 2 hour-long test drives I felt were night and day better against my ’17 RS.  Clarity, dynamic range, separation and stereo imaging were an order of magnitude better in the M3, but that’s just to my ear – your mileage may differ…  Of course the 600W amplifier helps and other components are a price league more expensive, which you’d expect to yield better results.

I’ve always thought that the RS sound quality was simply “average” for a modern multi-speaker integrated setup (My old Evo IX with inexpensive 2015 after-market Sony head unit and only 4 Kenwood speakers from 2005 offered better sound quality… and even then I knew Evo sound wasn’t up to scratch compared to our other cars)

The RS sound is muffled, mixed and dull-witted compared to what I was expecting, regardless of sound source FM, DAB, iPod, CD are all equally average not great, which is a shame considering the market point in which it sits.

    Yours Aye

    well said Chris !

    No nothing.

No Mods. No rockers. Just a chunky knob, thats now been replaced by an RS knob innit.

    No tackiness.

Std as Ford intended, but with a space saver wheel and jack and nuts and wheel brace. oh.. and flaps, a man has got to have flaps.

    Innit?

I’d rather have 4 good speakers, than 10 average ones.

@rampant, I’m not for a split second suggesting that the speakers in the rs are of great quality or better in any way than the m3 because their not and it would be ridiculous to suggest they were. I’m in my sixties with only one ear drum so profoundly deaf in one ear, so naturally I would not notice a high quality speaker if it smacked me in the face lol. But I am more than happy with every aspect of the rs, i’m not getting any of the problems that are regularly reported on these forums and I am more than happy to forgive it any small short comings that may arise over the years. The car makes me smile every time I drive it and that is more important to me. Kind regards Chris

But more generally it’s clear what Ford have tried to do with the RS. They cut back on everything “non-mechanical ” to maximise road performance. That’s why you get a dull cabin, minimum driver aids, average entertainment system, ect. Not criticising Ford, just pointing put the obvious. If you’re after better than the above plus similar performance, then you’re looking at something other than an RS. Be interesting to see what the mk4 offers.

to me, AUDI and BMWs have some of the dullest, drab, cold interiors out there!! I’m happy with my shell seats, the upgraded rear seats, the door panels, the steering wheel, whats not to like? I’ve had no negative comments about the interior at all! As for driver aids? I prefer to drive the car myself, I dont want lane guidance or other ‘aids’, Its bad enough the snowflake millenials wanting warm seats and warm steering wheels in the UK !! maybe some folk should come out in my BDA and see why you don’t need driver aids or a high end hi-fi in a fast car, all I need is open mouthed twin 45s and 9000 rpm and a close ratio gearbox and short diff. easily pleased I suppose, oh, and I love the Focus too.

I didn’t say I needed them, I was just adding more comments on the subject. Sorry if I offended anyone.

I agree with RS77,  I’m glad Ford choose to spend the budget on the transmission, suspension and drive train, than a radio & speakers.
