Just tried Ultima 2 myself and it’s not blowing me away!
Seem to have lost a lot of the pops and bangs also!
Think I’m gonna go back to Ultima.
Question is, do I have to return to stock……or can I just go from Ultima 2 to Ultima????
No. You do not have to return stock. You can install it directly. What I do not understand is that Ultima2 does not blown you a away but the Ultima does.
My friend told it to me exactly the other way and said that the Ultima2 kicks much more than the Ultima when he was using them
Thanks for that @grethch.
On my car the Ultima just seems to have more oommph than the Ultima 2.
My car is bog standard though, so that may have something to do with it!???
Got this message today as I was looking to switch to ND420.
“Hi Adrian,
Thanks for your email!
Sadly we wouldn’t want to get involved with the car if it’s had the Dreamscience map, they are very poor and det hard just before the limiter on
The Mk3’s we’ve tested. There may be engine damage. Additionally we don’t just sell the map, we live tune the car here after flashing the ND420
map in via the Cobb.
Cheers
Simon”
What do you think about this info?
I had exactly the same info from another source , detonating nr the limiter, I actually heard it for myself on my car!!
Hi Guys
Think there needs some clarification here as the RS uses very advanced knock control and in fact we add several degrees extra to the pcm’s ability to reduce ignition timing, not the other way. Also the knock sensor in the RS calibration is active until 7000rpm so always has control.
There are several conditions which can encourage knock these are mainly air temperature, fuel grade, charge pressure etc. It’s far more common for an engine to knock at low rpm rather than high rpm which is why in the majority of Ford calibrations the knock sensor is switched off at 6000 rpm as it’s deemed no further control is needed. Even the RS after about 5500rpm barely makes any corrections and if you log individual cylinders in most cases the pcm is adding timing rather than taking it out.
what can happen is these cars learn very quickly to be economical so when cruising along they run to a target maximum advance on a table called borderline knock table, minus several degrees. The pcm advances timing in some cases to the pre resonance of knock which is the frequency given off just prior to knock, the pcm from this data knows where to set the most efficient ignition point.
Now let’s say your cruising for 20 minutes at 75 mph constant the car would have learned and the timing will be quite far advanced, you then immediately give it a boot full of extra boost and higher charge temps mainly from low rpm and in most cases the pcm can adjust instantly but there is still a possibility a small knock may occur but mostly in lower rpm conditions. This can occur on the stock calibration too and is part of what the calibration is set up to manage.
Our Race tunes are two years old and no where near as refined as the later Ultima tunes DS Iltima is our stage 1 tune for std cars, DS Ultima 2 and Ultima 2+ were made on a car with intake and downpipe / sports cat although majority of standard and modified cars run Ultima 2+ as it’s the latest and best all round performance
as to the reference of another tuner getting knock on a DS RS, it was on Race 99+ running standard fuel, baking hot on a dyno and even the stock file made less than 300 bhp, the customer decided to get a custom map from that tuner that suddenly made all the power and at a grand later.
Enjoy the cars guys our maps are very well tested and there are several top calibrators behind them, personally I’d lean towards the Ultima maps they have more updates
all the best
TeamDS
Posts above show tune knock control same as stock at 7000 rpm and rev limit 6650 so pcm always in control.
@sm3agol it looks like a tuner is annoyed they haven’t picked up the market like dreamscience have.
I wont be using Norris Designs in the future if they are willing to pull out a statement like that, and to me it sounds like they don’t know what they are talking about!
Also what gets me is the DS maps are untraceable when returned to stock, so how will they know if a car has had it on if its 2nd hand and the current owner doesn’t know its previously been mapped!
Thank you Jared for your detailed answers. This sheds some good Light at Dreamsience. Cool stuff.
As above. Thank you interesting stuff Jared ??
Cheers
Phil
I’m not worried I’m still running it and loving it, like said above there is a lot of slating in this business
Very happy with my ultima 2 ??
Hi. Yes the Ultima2 and Ultima felt good when driving them but why do they generate so much torque on the Dymo.
Ultima2 was 609 Nm (449 lb). Race 99+ was 435 lb ft. I think this is a little bit high for for RDU an engine. Or am I wrong.
To compare, Montune M380 only delivered 406 lb ft. Is this not more healthy for engine?
I must admit that the ultima2 is much more fun the the M380.
