oh God, its looking like an endless job, do you ever see him getting it all put back together Marc? Ive done countless engine out jobs but I think I would rather pay someone to do the Focus for me if need be !
Back in 1984 aged 21 I was a bit concerned when stripping out the Bda ( there weren’t many, well no 16 valvers out then apart from the odd Triumph Dolomite Sprint) Compared with the Focus, the Escort is a walk in the park !
simples..
I really feel for him, I see a lot of pain and frustration ahead, good luck pal. Innit !
No nothing.
No Mods. No rockers. Just a chunky knob, thats now been replaced by an RS knob innit.
No tackiness.
Std as Ford intended, but with a space saver wheel and jack and nuts and wheel brace. oh.. and flaps, a man has got to have flaps.
Innit?
Right observations are as follows, he is a bit rough taking those clips out of the wheel arch liner, and its not a loved car no copper slip on his wheel studs dry as a bone. I still take my hat off to him very brave or stupid can’t make my mind up yet.

Yeah of course he’ll do it!! His mates gonna help him with the serious stuff. I’ve got a funny feeling he might slap a big Turbo on it when it’s out, it would make sense, be so much easier when the Engine is out and his target is 550 WHP, so he’ll need it!!
I’ve done numerous engine jobs myself, ranging from (as an Apprentice Mechanic in 1992) pulling ma mates engine out his Escort van and putting it back in just for the Craic after spending all day in the Pub, ??, lol, to more modern stuff which I was doing up until about 7 years ago as Workshop Foreman in a Dealership!! But it’s definitely easier when the vehicle is on a ramp and you’ve got loads of room and all the equipment and literature at hand.
Brave and stupid I think mate, lol!! Definitely showing some BALLS!! I’m certainly routing for him!!
Cheers, Marc.

There’s loads of stuff to remove and remember, maybe he’s filmed it in more depth than he shows on this thread. Good luck guy you need it.

if I was going to all that trouble I’d make sure its all done properly and doesnt need doing again or have any more modding ideas, I’d get a new bigger turbo, get the cyl head fully ported and flowed, bigger valves if available? better valve springs, some cams, all the inlet manifold and breathing and oil system mods done etc etc so just do it once and forget about it.

I’m guessing he’s filming the whole thing and storing it on computer, we’ll just be seeing snippets.
I think we’ll see him put a bigger Turbo on but that’ll be about it!! I know what you mean, get all the work done in one go. I liked watching him removing the lower suspension arm with his foot, haha!! Quality!! ??..!! Why is his lovely girlfriend not coming and helping him with stuff like that?? Undies or not, we don’t care!! ?? haha!! And that little chair he rolls about on is perfect for working on a car at that height, nothing worse than bending over all day getting a sore back!! ??..!!
Cheers, Marc.

That’s the problem with the Americanisms Hood only hood I know is Little red riding hood, Trunk, only trunks I know is the budgie smugglers blokes used to wear back in the day, or something you use for luggage on a trip to Africa, or part of an elephant. Tear it apart which he will do to his gear box, only tear it apart I know is something you do with a wrapped gift on Christmas day. Sucks, that’s what I would do with an ice lolly. This is one of the reasons I did not shed a tear when Matt Le Blanc said he was no longer doing Top Gear.

@coastliner, copper slip on wheel studs/ bolts is a no no these days. Can act as a hydraulic causing loose wheels.
Well it will not stop me from using it, had to try and remove many a wheel on the hard shoulder of a motorway and seen a sledgehammer used by the recovery company as your probably aware the alloy wheel can fuse to the hub with the oxidation. I have never had a wheel loosen.

The silicon lube you get with disc pads is ideal for that issue. Know what you mean though. Along with removing knackered locking nuts ?
