Found some Slivovitz in Lidl – £12 bottle and its real stuff, just like Hungarian Palinka my favourite. Highly recommended as an aperitif.

You can’t buy the real Thai whiskey anymore. I was gutted when I went last year. My favourite was Sang Thip but alas, not available anymore, I believe due to the content of formaldehyde (amphetamine – speed). I found Mekhong too harsh (Sang Thip was also very harsh but just slightly less).

All of it tastes like piss alone but nice with Coke (If you order a half bottle in a Thai bar you would get 2 cans of coke with it).

Sang Thip was highly addictive – 5 of us found out the hard way by drinking it every night for 2 months and all getting withdrawals afterwards. We loved how it made us all stay up all night and talk till the cows came home, then we found out it had speed in it!.

Ive heard about the Hong Thong but not tried it…yet.

My favourite drink over the last few years (25 years actually) has been Hungarian Palinka, known as Slivovitz in Poland, Slovenia and Bulgaria.

My favourite version of Palinka in the last few years is Magna Palinka and specifically their 63% version:

    https://www.paprikastore.co.uk/products/magna-plum-palinka-aged-in-wood-barrel-tolgyfahordos-szilva-50-05l/.

All Palinka is made from a Plum base, usually served as Plum but often flavoured with other fruits such as Cherry or Apricot.

The Magna Palinka is made in Bekescsaba Hungary by a few guys that I know – They are also a rock band, the Palinka started as a side hustle, now thay make gallons every day.

I also found Mekhong, a little rough and Hong Thong just a slightly less rough. Still can’t beat Welsh Penderyn Madeira cask.

If you go to Lidl, you may see this stuff. Very similar to Palinka except not has strong but more flavour – very nice too:

At £16 a bottle its a bit of a bargain as well. They also sometimes have Slivovitz which I notice ive mentioned before on this page above.
