@Frenk, the weather is really unusual this year some places that would normally have snow haven’t any and those who get a little have had more than their share.

@bobcat: Well, that’s called climate change I think. Have more enthalpy in the atmosphere and the weather jumps all over the place. More precipitations here, more bush fires there. We had it coming 😉

@Frenk, oh yes and to think to Earths orbit around the sun (elliptical) the wobble of the earth and moon other planetary movement have NOTHING to do with climate change. In approximately 1700 years (+/-) the people will be complaining of the dreaded ICE AGE 😹😹😹

Lately I watched a documentary on BBC about the flooding of the Baltic Sea in the Neolithic that made me chuckle. They discovered the remains of human settlements 100 metres under water along the shores. They calculated a rise of the water level by tens of metres over a period of 2,000 years. The involved scientist speculated into the microphone, the population probably saw the water coming and ran away…

Yeah, right, that’s the time scale bias of archeologists. Maybe he should read a bit more on tsunamis 😉

Up to 40cm of fresh snow for some north-western parts of the Alps for Christmas…  After yesterday’s rain in the north-western Alps, the weather has been drier today, still with plenty of cloud around but also some good sunny spells, the best of which have been in the southern Alps.Wednesday will be very mild and mostly fine before some active weather fronts introduce much colder air with snow to increasingly low levels in the northern, and especially north-western Alps on Thursday and Friday.  The rain/snow limit will begin around 1800m on Wednesday night before falling to between 700m and 1000m on Thursday. It will then fall to all levels by Friday morning. By the end of Friday we can expect 15cm to 40cm of new snow above 1500m across a wide swathe of the north-western Alps, including resorts such as Les Arcs, Flaine, Avoriaz, Verbier, Wengen, Engelberg and Lech. The French Haute-Savoie resorts of Avoriaz and Flaine are likely to see the most snow, with around 30-40cm at altitude. These new snowfalls should restore much of the damage inflicted by Monday’s mild and rainy weather in the north-western Alps, while the southern Alps will miss most of the snow. The south could see some really big snowfalls early next week though.

It only a forecast 😹😹😹😹 for the U.K.

    Long range forecast
    Sunday 27 Dec – Tuesday 5 Jan
It will be staying unsettled through to the end of December with a mixture of sunny spells and showers, but also some longer spells of rain. Temperatures are expected to be below average with snow expected over hills, but this is also likely to fall to lower levels at times, especially but not restricted to the north. It will be often windy too, with a risk of coastal gales. Going into early January there are signs that more settled weather will develop, particularly across western areas of the country. Should this occur, overnight frosts will become more widespread and there are likely to be morning fog patches. Temperatures are likely to be remaining below average.

    Tuesday 5 Jan – Tuesday 19 Jan
A continuation of rather cold conditions look most likely to persist through the early part of January. A decent amount of fine and dry weather is likely to persist too with western areas likely drier than average. Eastern areas have the greatest chance of seeing wintry showers at times. By mid-January confidence in the prevailing weather patterns becomes much more uncertain. There are tentative signs that more unsettled conditions will develop widely again with temperatures returning to around average.

Hi all, for those in the U.K. I hope you had a good Christmas 🥂🥳🥂🎉🥳🤪👍 It’s looking like the U.K. is going to be hit with a very big storm over the next 6/8 hours with flooding. I hope you can get the RS to higher ground and stay safe. Baton down the hatches one and all😱👍
