I reckon the cheaper bit is the big factor. I just think about plastic getting brittle over time. I know there not subject to UV but heat and oil surely has an effect over time.

    well done marc !

    No nothing.

No Mods. No rockers. Just a chunky knob, thats now been replaced by an RS knob innit.

    No tackiness.

Std as Ford intended, but with a space saver wheel and jack and nuts and wheel brace. oh.. and flaps, a man has got to have flaps.

    Innit?

Its getting worse there must be bits all over his garage. And gearboxes are not straightforward if he doesn’t get everything just right it will not change smoothly.  I am rooting for him.

    Go Marc go

Love the massive heap of bits on the left at about 5:30, he is certainly brave to say the least.

Must have an understanding partner, just nipping out love to buy a bearing press??

    This is now getting interesting.

Love the trash bags for covering the bonnet vents to stop water ingress on his mates motor.

May the Ford be with you

Morning mate!! I’ve not seen any “care or finesse” at any point during the build!! Don’t know how many attempts it took him to lift the Head free of the Block, understandable when the Engine is still in the car and your struggling to see down the back if everything is disconnected but when it’s on a stand with full access surely you can see if everything is disconnected, lol!! And I’d have thought they might have been better pre-heating the Gearbox Bearings in an oven so they just slip on rather than hitting them on so far then trying to heat them up with a hot air gun??!! Anyhoo, I think we’ll see some real progress now and hopefully all is well when it comes to starting the Engine and finding some gears!!

    Cheers, Marc.

When I have torqued a head and its a year or two since I did one I did it in stages gradually increasing the torque settings maybe three stages. I think between the four of them they have a few skills, its the gearbox I am fearful its quite specialised, and it is a little more involved than say a Nissan Micra. Ford gearboxes always seem nice gearboxes, they change smoothly and seem the better of most makes.

Oh almost forgot, that timing chain doesn’t look the best, looks like a plastic tensioner I would bet that will need replacing around 80K as a failure will be the same result as the old cambelt. And it looks an involved job. Done many a cambelt but this looks beyond my skills.

What did I say about that gearbox, the guy who was working on it has gone now and its a strip down again and a head scratch. He may end up taking the gearbox to a specialist.

Morning mate!! Yeah you’re right, the lad that built the G/box couldn’t get out of there quick enough, lol!! But I’ll tell you, he’s one very lucky man… Not only is his girlfriend tidy as F**K but she is also “putting down some towels in the sitting room so he can work on the G/box in the comfort of his own home”??!! FANTASTIC!! ????.

    Cheers, Marc.
